those who have deleted there 3rd cat have you notice a major improvement in performance? i sure did, car revs up much quicker and all around seems to be peppier...it will roast tires from a dead stop no where as before it would only sqwack them

anyone else have experience with this

This is what I'm thinking I also don't smell rotten eggs anymore after hard accel through first and second

I know on my old 93 that had an exhaust from a 95lsc I parted when I deleted 3rd cat I didn't notice anything different except for sound had xpipe installed with flowmaster 40's rear mounted it also had egg smell prior to 3rd cat removal

This time I went hpipe and magnaflows from a 03 cobra catback not to loud almost stock at idle but comes to life once on it

My '97 LSC had the "rotten egg" smell under WOT through 1st and 2nd also. Replaced the 3rd cat with an H-pipe and cured it. Didn't really notice much change in power though. But it sounds absolutely menacing with cherry bombs!

I just did mine too. Maybe a little peppier. Love the sound difference. The magnaflows really come alive at throttle.

I love my new exhaust. did it a week ago and WOW!!!! everything from the cats back is 2.5 inches. xpipe right after the cats no muffs. it was like giving an asthmatic fat kid his inhaler back. I had the rotten egg smell as well.

This is a mod on my list. Does it change the sound much if you already have a catback setup? (in my sig for example)

Removing the third cat definitely makes things more lively. Before I had the full exhaust done on mine I simply swapped out the 2 stock mufflers for magnaflows. I was highly underwhelmed by the sound. A little growly, but no rumble or anything. Then I hacked out the 3rd cat and that instantly gave the car a good sounding rumble to the exhaust.

As far as I'm concerned the thing is basically on the car for no reason and removal gives you a hearty sound/performance boost for the cost of an H or X pipe. Hack away(unless you live in california).

I got rid of the cat and the resonator in hopes to liven it up some, but was sort of disappointed with the results (though everyone else says it sounds amazing.)
I did just the Mangnaflows at first and left the rest of the system and it was way to quiet at idle (unless directly behind it) but decent at wot even with the race series mufflers (a lot of people said it sounded good and wasn't to much for a Lincoln, me included, but I wanted a tiny bit more ;) )
I then put a straight pipe where the resonator was and it made zero difference at idle and wot but made it slightly more droney with a hint of rasp (I was surprised how little it did!)
With the third cat out, its a bit louder and does rev slightly better, but nothing exceptional at all. I think it sounds good now at idle and wot and all I've asked about it say the same (plus a couple that though I changed the mufflers again when they follwed me home. lol, they say its fairly loud now at wot especially)...
Being a Lincoln I wouldn't want it any louder I don't think as it is not that type of car ;)

I guess I need to find a palce that's cool with doing this. Maybe Stacy's in sarasota, they did work to my Lumina.

Find someone with a sawzall and cut it off your self, then wire it up quick and take it to the shop for a replacement "x-pipe" ;) Half the fun of that besides playing with a sawzall is driving with the exhaust open :D

They did the work on my Mark VIII.

Couple things to note.

1. Maybe they'll remember, but don't let them try to tell you that 2.5" won't fit. We had to argue about that. Then he tried to tell me that I'd lose all low end torque.

2. It might be a good idea to not have them weld it into a giant, single assemble. A pair of exhaust flanges would make it easier to work on the car in the future without having to drop the entire system.

3. Make sure you get his price in writing first. They promised me one price, then thought differently after the start.

The work was good, their reputation is good, but I don't think they are used to having someone who knows what they want walking in their and holding them to it.

hey guys, i have a base 95. im looking to remove my 3rd cat. and the resonator. my 3rd cat to blocked. so what did you all use?? where did you get it? part number? Thanks!

in response to what calabrio said, why would you loss low end torque by going to a bigger pipe? your allowing the engine to breath better.. i dont see how that could happen, but hey im in high school i could be wrong.

Thanks!

Use a standard sawz-all tigersaw or w/e they're called and cut it off yourself. Then have fun driving your super loud mark VIII to your local exhaust shop and have them install a H pipe for you.

custom welded x pipe and 2.5 inch pipe from manifold cats to tips installed for $200

i dont think im following... i have the stock exhaust, so im going from duels to a single exhaust. so how would that fit?

The 95 doesn't really have a dual exhaust stock. It basically has a single exhaust that they split up at the end. With true duals the exhaust is basically two separate pipes the whole way except for a crossover H or X pipe. Anyway the 95 should have room for real duals unless your exhaust shop is super incompetent or lazy. Also you won't lose any low end torque. That's only if you do something dumb like go 3.5 inch dual pipes or run open headers.

sorry to say, but the 95 has true duels from the heads all the way to the 3rd cat. after the 3rd cat it runs a single pipe. the 3rd cat is a Y pipe thats a cat. also there the resonator right after the 3rd cat.

also, im just looking to get rid of the 3rd cat. its clogged and stinks! and to get rid of the resonator. im not looking to do true duels on this one. maybe later after i swap the heads :gr_devil:

The guy at the muffler shop was being lazy so he fed me that line in an effort to work with the 2 1/4" pipe instead of the 2 1/2" as I'd specified. In principle, the size of the pipe will impact the low end/high end torque and that is a factor when tuning, but in our application, the Mark VIII, a 2.5" is an improvement.
