i have the 2006 ls v8 and have searched the forums and seen many different opinions. i am wanting a more "muscular" type sound from my exhaust. kinda leaning towards the bassani. what all should i replace and/or change? just the mufflers or do i need to change the resonators? i would like some opinions cause im not sure of what to get or what i need.

i did that. i just dont know much about cars and didnt know what parts i needed to change and/or get.

Loudest possible sound is straight pipes but it may not sound good to you. The muscular sound is not only a combo of exhaust and pipes but physical engine size and internals as well.

The 3.9 is a V8 but a small one and can only get so loud.

When I first got my car I changed just the mufflers (Magnaflow) and tips. Made a pretty big difference in sound. A couple months ago I removed the resonators and got 2.5" piping from the cats to the mufflers with a X pipe in the middle. It also made a difference in sound.

I just had my resonators taken off and replaced by a straight pipe. It sounds MUCH better than I thought. My intermediate kick down kicks in much quicker as well. I am not sure why but it does but it does. I only expected a little change but it is much more than I expected. There is no drone either. I bought an X pipe on Ebay, about 12" long to install (cost about $35 shipped) and VERY high quality. If you add good mufflers, flowtech or flowmaster, to that then you are much cheaper than a whole exhaust and it will be pretty nice complete.

Bassani's only come in 2.5 in/outlet.

The rectangular universal muffler sounds great and have good volume. Not too loud, not too quiet, and have a european/muscle sound to it. Magnaflows have a euro sound, flowmaster have muscle sounds, bassani has some of both. You can't tell in the video as well as in person, in person they sound so much better than in my video.

If you want to go with bassani and even louder, you can try to go with the smaller, one of the race mufflers, like this one

If you go with the regular universal ones, just make sure you get the correct configuration for in/outlet.

If you dont know what you're doing, I say start step by step. Just have the muffler installed in place of your stock mufflers and drive it for a week to see how you like the sound and volume. If you want it a little louder, take the resonators off and add an x-pipe.

ok so if i go with the universal muffler i can just have them weld it on without any other mods? and i will need two of those and what size tips to fill the holes in the bumper? where can i find the universal ones?

All the mufflers they have.

Get atleast 3.5'' tips, but 4'' look and fill the cut out better IMO. You need 2 mufflers.

They have the bx mufflers on sale right now, the are made from less durable material but if you live in an area where you dont need salt protection, you can get the bs mufflers. The normal ones are like 160 and the box are about 85 right now.

I think you should try it out in steps as mentioned above, I have no mufflers, a x-pipe and SLP LM bullet resonators, it sounds very aggressive, drones a bit, but has a very nice tone. Videos of my LS/exhuast are in the video sticky at the top of the page.

actually for once i think that I'm going to have to disagree with what everyone else here has said...

I you really want the car to sound truly F'ing awesome, then instead of replacing your muffler with any of the brands mentioned here, you should replace them with one big turbo! trust me, everybody always says that you can't feel the difference an exhaust makes, YOU WILL SURE AS SH!T FEEL THIS!!

and if you dont like how that sounds, I will be collecting those members man cards!

THEY BE LIKE WOOO WOOOOOOOO *drives off almost wrecks into oncoming traffic, then runs stop sign*

I agree with everything Alax said, spot on!

what i recommend you do which im going to do once i get my lincoln ls.magnaflow exhaust set up with the super 44 series mufflers with the 4 inch magnaflow exhaust tips. i currently drive a 2004 mazda rx8 :)

Magnaflow set up with flowmaster? Meaning you're going to buy a magnaflow exhaust kit and use flowmaster mufflers in stead of the magnaflow?

I had Flowtech mufflers on my 5.0 Mustang and it had an EXCELLENT sound and didn't get SUPER LOUD like some mufflers over time. I put 75k miles on those mufflers and they still had that original deep, almost like you have an upgraded cam, sound. And they certainly beat no mufflers at all.
