So I found this person who is selling a LS with this special motor. It is a 335hp v6 developed with McLaren but never put into production. He claims to be a retired Ford engineer and it was a development engine that never was produced as the cost was too high. I have asked for pictures to be sent. The car is in the middle of nowhere so I can't just go see it. I'm just curious if anyone has heard of such a car. He also claims to have a 1978 mustang with a 505 cubic inch aluminum big block. So feel free to chime in with opinions.

^^^^^^^^^^he said v6, not v8, unless its a typo

Yeah. The McLaren LS was 355hp V8. Most likely a typo. Would be very interested in seeing it for sure.

No it isn't a typo, he claims it is a v6 and achieves 36 to 38mpg. I was aware of the supercharged v8 but this is a v6, he says SHO, so I'm guessing loosely based on the yamaha v6 from the SHO. The SHO was a regular 3.0 v6 with yamaha sourced 4 valve heads. I will post a picture as soon as one is supplied. I say regular as it had the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the vulcan v6. Unless it is a previous version of the current SHO, which has the ecoboost. That engine would make more sense as it could be bolted to the transmission as it is based on the duratec v6.
His asking price is $9000 so nothing crazy for the year. I'm interested but imagine how hard it would be to get parts or diagnose any issues! If it really is a one of a kind. It also isn't a sport package as it does not have the shifter from the sport, has 16 inch wheels and the chrome bumpers. It sounds very odd that this special engine would be dropped in a non sport car but who knows. If he really did work at ford they could have dropped it in anything. To confirm it is also an automatic.

Re: McLaren v8
They probably crushed it as they usualy do that with cars that don't see production. Or they crash tested it, which is basically the same thing.

It wasn't a factory car. It was a special SEMA car and was sold with the supercharger in the trunk as the engineers at McLaren couldn't get it to play with the computers.

Could you imagine finding the Mclaren LS for sale somewhere.....

The ad would say:

For Sale 2002 Lincoln LS
Low miles
Alloy wheels
Not running
Come get it out of my garage for $2000 cash

If he can't send at least two pics, one of the car and one of the engine bay, I wouldn't even bother. Chances are he doesn't know what he's talking about. That's where my money is at.

i think its funny that OP didnt post any more information, like a link.
he wants it all for himself haha

just go buy an XF and be done w it..

On a serious note, 335 HP in an LS sounds possible with some mods. It would really need more fuel though. That would be really awesome. I would be happy with 50hp more.

Yo man, can I borrow a few bucks?

I will post the details once I confirm it actually is a real car. Also 335hp out of the v6 is another 100 hp for the gen2. Don't forget the v8 is heavier than the v6. If this really is a McLaren developed v6 I imagine it might even be lighter than the stock v6.

Only by the difference in engine weight; about 100 pounds.

doubtful. as it is a luxury car over a sports car, i doubt you'd see the car go on a diet very much. the extra go parts to make up that 100hp would surely weigh something.

he prolly thinks SHO because the V6 LS is a 3.0. the ignorant Taurus SLO owners always think they have a SHO because its a 3 liter. no, you're just ignorant.

emailed about a SHO/SLO just a week ago. showed him a pic of the Yamahammer engine and it wasn't what he was selling. just a boring taurus.

where did the 335 hp come from? no idea. this guy is prolly just goofy. or more likely just misinformed.

as a side note, the Yamaha built v6 was built entirely by Yamaha. they tried to use a ford block, but 7k+ rpm kept breaking it. so Yamaha built the whole thing.
it does share many characteristics with the vulcan, but it is not the same block.
