I have 1995 Mark VIII now and I was thinking of getting a 1993. How are the 93's?? Are they any good, or have any problems more than the rest, considering they are the very first year of the Mark VIII??

Thanks for the help,
Vic

Only claimed that because it's true, you'll see .2 in the 1/4 maybe. A tune will make up the difference

Its hit or miss. It all depends on if the car was taken care of. I bought my 93 grandpa fresh with 60xxx. It has never seen snow and hasn't seen rain in 10 years. It has 100xxx now and still is mostly original. Factory airbags still hold all winter while I store it.

the tech was already pretty solid when the mark went into production. the average 93 wouldn't have any more or less problems than the average 95.

the speed is all in the computer tune. the engines and drivetrain really didn't change. but the 95s on up got the double din stereo and a few other tweaks.

Oh for sure. They got it right with the 93, then everything sorta went downhill after that. ;)

Not to toot my own horn, but I feel the 95s are the best 1st gens, for one they offered the lsc package, they had the updated dash with double din radio, nicer wood grain center console parts, exhaust cutouts on rear bumper with nicer Chrome tips, and its only a w3z2 computer swap away from being just as fast as a 93..all without the headaches of the obd2 96 only parts..only thing the 96 has going for it are the factory HIDs if you find an LSC..and that can also be added to any other 1st gen if you want to spend the money to find a nice set of LSC housings..my 95 just so happened to fall into my lap and after seeing the differences I feel its the best year for 1st gens..just my opinion though..

The 93 and 95's are my personal favorites. The 93 because it already has the 1-piece driveshaft, and, if you're lucky, a good computer, and the 95 for all the reasons keVIIIn mentioned. Of course, doing the ECU and DS swap on a 95 is no big deal, either. The 94 is just kind of the worst of both worlds (none of the good stuff from the 93 or 95, but there was one "hot" ECU that came in the 94's from what I've seen others say. Still don't think it matches the W3Z2, though). Then the 96-98's got the OBD-II, and, for me, that means emissions, so for that reason I'm not really into them as much. I would like to have a gen-II as a cruiser or mildly built street car one day, though. I prefer their interiors and rear end styling over the gen-I's. Besides that, I'm 93-95 all the way.

Don't dis the 94's .... My Marked8 did a 14.6 in my 94 stock no mods ...

I've had a 95 and a 93. Never raced either. I doubt unless you take them to the track stock you'll really notice much difference.

Currently still have my 94 and a very clean 93. Personally 93, 94, 95, 96, 97 or 98 just part of a collection

Hot ECU in a '94? Whats the code, maybe I have it in my car?

I've owned 2 '93's, my black one & last year I had a blue one, I also had a white '96 & 4 Gen II's. Hands down my 93's will kick any other year's @ss.
I'm going to miss my '93 when it goes. It's very strong but yes, I've always said it, if you open the door of a '93 Lincoln Mark VIII, step back a bit & look at it, there's NOTHING that resembles a LINCOLN about a '93's interior. It looks like a very nice upscale '90's Ford but NOT a LINCOLN. That's why those aftermarket wood trims were being sold by the dealer because other than the emblem on the steering wheel you were sitting inside a Thunderbird.

Gen II's have a much nicer interior & if that's not the case then why are so many members wanting to swap GEN II interior's into their Gen I's?

What is your plan for the car? Ever thought about owning both generations as opposed to 2 of the same gen? Food for thought.

I do enjoy my 93 and it's W3Z2, it hits all the shift points at 6000 if stomped on, well to OD is a bit less.. Now I am not yet data logging but that's what the tach says.

A surprisingly strong car for a sub 300 horse sled. A very good handling sled though. Never ceases to amaze me how well this monster corners.

DZA1 was in the 95. Z4H0 was in the 94. I have had both and the Z4H0 seemed to be pretty quick but I still prefer W3Z2 if you're keeping it stock.

I've also heard there are "hot" dza1s as well..I don't know though how you're really able to tell just by seat of the pants feel..I know after putting a w3z2 in mine it didn't really make it feel any faster, just made it shift better and removed my traction control feature which is nice, and of course the speed limiter..

About the only thing the 2nd gen interiors have on the 1st gens are the door panels and front seats..the rest I could care less about, in fact I like the 1st gen center console better than the 2nd gen.
