I ran a new personal best in my "new" Mark VIII. I've got a 1998 LSC.

Here are the details....
Temp - 46 Degrees
R/T - -.003 (I false started, but pretty damn close!!)
60' - 2.132
330 - 6.099
1/8 - 9.343
MPH - 76.30
1000 - 12.096
1/4 - 14.416
MPH - 96.07

I ran this at Englishtown.

My mods are only a LMS cat-back exhaust.

I'm very happy with this time. I'm thinking I might have the fastest Gen II with just cat-back? Has anybody with just my mod run faster?

I took the spare out, cut the front of the air box out and removed the air silencer, but I'm not sure how much that really does.

Last time I raced her, she did a 14.8, but that was with original plugs, fuel filter and 87-octane gas. I did a tune up in the fall with copper plugs, changed the fuel filter and ran 93-octane for this run.

For those of you that don't know me, I had a 1993 Mark VIII for 11-years and that pig did 14.3 @ 97 MPH also with only a cat-back. I've had this "New" Mark VIII for 1-year and 3-months.

Again, I'm very happy with the time. I thought the most she'd do was 14.5. Although I still don't love the 1-2 manual shift in this Gen II. It's sloppy. I also don't like the gearing of the LSC while going through the finish line (hitting the rev limiter).

Man thats fast for a stock 98. Very fast for the mods. Good work. Mine wasn't even close with similar mods. I still have stock pipes and cc and third cc only changed the mufflers. I have different mods.
 
Close to sea level like atco i believe.

Thats pretty fast...best i ran was a 14.9 in my stock 97, no mods..at atco raceway.
 
Damn makes me want my 93 to run that fast... Im just happy I can blow the doors off the rice with my stock VIII.
 
E-Town is at sea level.

The cold spring and cold fall nights have always been the best times to run my cars at the track. Mid-summer I'll run a good 1/2 second slower.

As usual I was the only Mark VIII at the track.......One of the reasons I like to race it. Even some people who work at the track don't know what a Mark VIII has under the hood or which wheels drive the car.

The annoucer did say the Mark VIII was his favorite Lincoln when I pulled up to the starting line........that was cool. I listed to him on the radio when I was pulling up. (englishtown raceway park broadcasts the annoucer over an FM station so you can listen to him in your car at or near the park)

Wow, you got 1.2 seconds on my 97 lsc. How'd you launch? tc off, od off? do you keep it in second to the line? Excellent time!
 
Very nice! How did you race it, manually shift or leave it in drive? That might very well be the fastest gen 2 with just a catback. Now when you say LMS catback does that include removing the 3rd cat and replacing with x pipe?

If I were a betting man I owuld have to say he did a "mild" burnout, launched from idle, tc and od off while manually shifting?
 
Great times! And I have to give you props on that RT even if it is on the wrong side, it's still damn good.

My technique was just as Geno said above (or the best way to drag a mild modded Mark VIII)

A couple of dry hops until it hooks outside of the water pit and before the starting line, floor it from idle off the line (or flash the converter), TC off (that has to be off), and manually shift from 1-2. I did the manual shift about 5,900 and it actually shifts around 6,500 or so (you know the super quick Lincoln tranny?!). The 1-2 shift is faster and harder when done manually (still a long way from perfect though). I held it in 2 through the finish. I'm not sure if I hit the rev limiter right before the finish line or right after. Either way I wouldn't have enough time to wait for the 2-3 shift around the finish.

I do turn off the air suspension and lower my rear tire pressure to 20psi.....not sure if these things really help.

What is strange is it seems like the rev limiter in the 1998 kicks in at a higher RPM than in my 1993. Maybe 6,500 for the 1993 and 6,700 for the 1998. Anybody know about this?

Oh and yes, the cat-back is after the 1st 2-cats, so the 3rd is removed. I have 2-X's after the 2-cats.

Like I said, I'm really happy with the 14.4, I really didn't think she had that in her. I keep saying it "feels" slower than my 1993, but in reality, it really isn't. :)

Tripany - And yes that reaction time of -.003 I believe was my closest to dead on I've ever had.........even though I red-lighted.

Whats the date and time you ran 14.4 and 14.8.

Assuming the track's weatherstation is working properly, which I find hard to believe, when it was 46* on the 25th (assuming you went on the 25th not the 24th) you would have raced arround 4:55pm-5:00 pm. (which would have been just arround opening, but they usuially dont start racing until 5:30 on weekdays so Im assuming the weatherstation was way off and that you raced later in the evening) DA at that time was -1019. That lends to quite a substancial inflation of times. If you can tell me what day and time you ran 14.8 I can find the DA for that and you can compair them and draw your own conclusions.

The 14.883@94.95 I ran was on 6/25/2008 at 7:59pm. It was at e-town as well but for whatever reason there is no temp on the ticket. Obviously it was way warmer than 46 on that date. Also, please remember when I ran that day it was on the original (10-year old plugs), probably the original fuel filter and I was running 87-octane gas.

The 14.416@97MPH was on 3/26/09 at 7:27pm with a temp of 46 degrees. I also ran with 93-octane gas, newer copper plugs, and newer fuel filter.

Both times were with the cat-back exhaust.

for comparisons sake.

Our ET's will swing about .5 from summer to winter here in texas.

In the winter we commonly have -1000ft DA's and in the summer they can be 3000 above

Englishtown Old Bridge Raceway Park has an elevation of 178 ft above sea lvl.

When you ran 14.8 here were the atmospheric conditions:
78.8*F
30.09 in Hg
44% rel humidity
which makes DA
1489

Im assuming you went 14.4 on the 25th, as it is not yet 7pm on the 26th.
As I suspected the track's weather station was not reading correctly.
Here are last night's atmospheric conditions at 7:35 PM:
41.0*F
30.28 in Hg
53% rel humidity
which makes DA
-1342

Making a difference in your da of 2831!!!!
THATS your difference. Unfortunately nothing else.

Your Corrected time for 14.4 run is 14.624 @ 94.64
Your Corrected time for 14.8 run is 14.640 @ 96.59

As you can see, there is a NEGLEGABLE difference between the two, and the mph disparity would probably be explained away by spinning (as you could tell from 60's)
 
Current density altitude at KABQ = 7100ft, it's only March, and we're in the middle of a cold front. I'm so jealous of you sea level guys... :p
