Who wins?

Any experience with this race?

Have a friend that just picked one up and wants to run them.....I know he is lighter but my LS has more lb ft. of torque.

Correction, it's a 2005 Acura TL.

i would think the ls. it probably would be close but the ls should will thru. the only thing he would have over you is better fuel economy with that v6.

An automatic TL hits 60 in 7 seconds, manual 6.2. Take all the weight you can out of your car. If you had a XCAL2, took a bunch of weight out of your car(spare tire,etc...), And it was below 60 degrees outside. You would be guaranteed a win. Racing is a lot in the driver, a good driver can make a slightly slower car win.

It's an automatic, I didn't plan on taking the spare tire out but did plan on only having about 2 gallons of gas in the car....I think the LS should be able to beat him.

Explain to me exactly what you can do with an XCAL2?

Do a search for the XCAL2 on this forum. This is a device that lets you put modified engine tunes into your car. Torrie at http://www.fastpartsnetwork.com does tunes for our LS's on most of the cars on here. Advancing timing, adjusting fuel mixture, changing different parameters, shift points, shift firmness, etc....

I and 1 other Gen 2 LS are both running 14.2 second 1/4 miles.

There is another Gen 1 LS on here that isnt far behind us.

It will add a good 20-30HP depending on how crazy you want the tune to be. And also taking into consideration what other mods you have, intake, exhaust, etc... This XCAL2 is the best bang for the buck performance wise. I cant drive my LS w/o the tune in it :D

Awesome...I will look into the XCAL2, where is Torrie located though? I wouldn't want to be messing with this myself without knowing what I am doing. Thanks for the reply but you still think the TL has the edge being an automatic and stock?

BTW, your LS is awesome, nice looking car! Do you know where I can get a new Denso 2007 DVD for my navigation without paying $200.00 through Navteq? eBay hardly ever has them......

Thanks for the comment. Torrie is somewhere in the Houston area I believe, he is very helpful over the phone and email. It doesnt take much to get the XCAL2 figured out.

You should be able to run with or beat a auto TL. Let us know how it goes.
I had a guy with a Legend that thought his car was SO fast, faster than his 5.0 Mustang blah blah blah. I lined up my completely stock SHO against him and blew his doors off. He should have had the advantage with more HP. Anything can happen.

My NAV is a Pioneer so they have their own discs. Not sure where to get the stock NAV discs for less. Try placing a free ad in the Ebay buy it now section.

Guy i work with has a Type-S 03/04 something like that on some 18's and we raced about a qt mile. i put track control on and i beat him probably about 1 to 2 cars.

Torrie is out of Jacksonville, FL.

Amazing customer service.

Same guy two business:

http://www.FastPartsNetwork.com
http://www.UnleashedTuning.com

02V8SPORT is correct in it doesn't take much to use XCal2. Do the search for SCT FLASHER, should answer all your questions.

Around $400.

From Torrie the full retail price like 02V8SPORT said includes 3 tunes and great customer service.

He treats you like you’re his only customer.

Well worth the $$$$.

Torrie has turned most of LS on this form that go with XCal2.

From a stop, I would have to give it to the Acura.

From a roll(40/45mph), your LS should pull on him.

Topend, not even close. You should walk away from him easily.

You can take him from a start too since its a auto.

Raced one the other day. Old prick wouldn't even line up decent. Pulled up next to him...he rolled ahead...I pulled up again...he rolled clear over the crosswalk and fenders length into the intersection. Then to top it off he started to roll out before the the green, I just smashed it and still got ahead by nearly my whole car before he let off 40ish. It had to be a auto for me to jump it like that.

Good kill,

I really think the Acura doesn't have a chance IMO. We'll race soon and I will let you know the results.

Oh take it seriously, that car was not droppin fast and likely even though he rolled out early on me I likely got it to the floor first. Once both were going WOT I only pulled sloooowly.

If you can get a good start...you'll pull more and more. IMO. His best chance of keeping up is his short game, but without the manual I just don't think you should have a problem holding him off till you start pulling.

the TYPE-S are quick cars. I belive all the TYPE-S are automatic with a "sports shifter" auto shift or whatever it may be called. but the guy i worked with had a type -s v6 and we went front dead stop and i got him from roll too. interstate i pulled on him at about 120 but he took me top end i stopped at like 138ish or something he must have been doing 145+ DUNNO what he has done besides rims and intake.

This was an '05 TL?

2004-2005 Acura TL
Horsepower : 270 hp @ 6200 rpm
Torque : 238 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm
Redline : 7000 rpm

Top speed : 155 mph(estimated)
0-60 mph : 5.9 sec.(manual), 6.3 sec.(automatic)
0-¼ mile : 14.5 sec @ 95.0 mph(manual)

2003-2006 Lincoln LS V8
Horsepower : 280 hp @ 4000 rpm
Torque : 286 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
Redline : unknown

Top speed : 140 mph(electronically limited)
0-60 mph : 6.5 sec.
0-¼ mile : 14.9 sec @ 95.0 mph
60-0 braking distance : 130 ft.
200 ft skidpad : 0.78 g

I have the KKM also and I've beaten an 02 3.2 TL by 4 cars and an 02 RSX Type S by 2. It'll be a close race. Stock Lincoln weighs about 300lbs more also. And they didn't make a TL Type S between 2004 and 2006. I wouldn't even use the SST. Just take off traction and mash it. I think it'll be close and I hate to say it but I think the TL will win by a small amount. Just don't bet $ because there is a big chance you can lose. Hope that helps. Good luck.

You can always give douse his tires in tire shine before you race. Not that I would ever do that.

10 more HP doesn't mean much but getting it 2200rpm earlier does...big time. 48 more TQ a 1000k earlier will help the short game alot also. Final drive ratio will play a part in this but the 03ups 3.58s are more than good for a stock production car.

TURN OFF YOUR TRACTION CONTROL. These cars sit well on the rear wheels and don't really have traction problems. Bumping the engine detune by breaking them lose will lose you the race for sure vs. a little spin. A little spin can get the car to the power band faster and sometimes will often improve acceleration. A little spin...not blazin them which the LS isn't likely to do...doesn't do.

Good points!

The LS has an excellent 50/50 weight ratio and if we were on a road course the LS would wipe the TL up with its sport-tuned supsension. I'll have to practice a bit, I have never really played with my car out of traction control except for on icey parking lots of course......

No practice needed. Turn it off and mash it. You will find that it really doesn't break them loose much if at all, normal street conditions. If you have it on and it kicks in you will watch him walk away...trust me. I have accidently left it on at the 1/4mile and when she detunes its like letting off the gas...not a good idea for a very close race (or any race unless on compromised surfaces) and usually get at best of 3/4 sec off the days pace. All of which is right at the line which is most important against this type of car...thats his best chance to give you the closest race, the launch.

Again IMO.
