03 LS Rescue!

thanks guys i hope so too. i dont think ill have any probs. i didnt short cut anything and used all legit parts . i ordered the suicide hinges today also. so when we get back to the shop that will start. i figured id tackel the hard mod first and get it out of the way.

What brand of hinges are you using? I have ALWAYS wanted to do this modification.
 
autoloc mono universal hinge for large cars. theres a ton of cutting,,,,, welding and supporting to do. i have 16hrs in so far and the door still drops alil. tomorrows a new day. ill post pics of my process so if u guys wanna attempt u can see how its done.
 
I never really thought about what a massive undertaking suicide doors are. Cant wait to see this project's progress.
 
you gotta cut the door jam out and into the quarter almost clear to the gas door. gotta cut the hinge to mount in a pocket behind the package self bracing. there isnt alot of room inside a ls quarter so its tight. and u gotta cut the door open. not as much as i did. its my first time and i wasnt sure where it would land inside the door. but with it open big in the door it helps to make the bracing for the reinforcment easier.

i can chop a car and put it back together to factory with ease. but this is a real test of my skills id have to say. 1 of the hardest things ive done to a car so far.
 
tac everything in and use a jack to support the door until u are sure u have enough reinforcment in there where it wont rip off. this isnt a good example as you can see the door kinda swings upward instead of straight acroos. i had to cut my tacs and adjust it. make sure when you tac your hinge in its at a 90 degree angle and its all level so it doesnt do this.

F-in love it. I'm a bodyman myself and i love custom bodywork. This is perfect for a Lincoln, Love the old suicide door conti's. And it would be more appropriate for a modern Continental if they weren't so freaking gay(no offense to conti owners, just my personal opinion). That makes the LS the perfect candidate to bring back the suicide Linc. Can't wait to see it finished
 
after i adjust them for the 3rd time. still drops alil but i think i can get it tomorrow after i weld in a few more reinforcments to keep it from flexin.

That hinge location looks like it is under the package tray. Couldn't you weld in like a 1.5" round tube that could tie both hinges together. That should eliminate any flex cause they would pull against one another.
 
I can't wait to see what the filled in side trim looks like. I'm not one for side trim.

i dont mind the molding on the ls. but i airbrush and do custom paint. i didnt want them breaking up the graphics i put on it when i get to that point. figured smooth would work best for me

Yeah I thought i was a smart guy once and wasn't using my shield. before i went blind for a day. I was driving home the night i did it, and the car headlights coming at me were red. I kinda knew i F-ed up at that point.
 
i usually do use my autodark. but constant adjusting and tacing i thought id turn my head close the eyes and tuff it out. lol. i havent had it since highschool when we use to smoke cigs in metals class under our mask and stike the arc sticks to make it look like we were workin.. haha

Yup felt like somebody threw sand in your eyes. Was funny my grand dad came over and told me to put potatoes on my eyeballs. and within a few hours i was at least able to open my eyes without being in pain
