00 LS Foglight Question

Hey everybody hows it going, i got a foglight questiion on my 00 LS i noticed when i turn my highbeams off my foglights turn off, i did this mod on my 01 Ranger i found the foglight relay switch bent one of the prongs out of the way to send power to the foglights even when i turn my highbeams on is this mod do able on the LS.

It's a DOT law that allows for only 4 forward facing lights, so as the highbeams come on, the driving lights turn off.

If you can figure it out please post it! Also the low beams turn off when you flash your high beams

But my low beams turn off when i hit the highbeams on so that only leaves me with 2 forward facing lights so why cant i have the foglights stay on when i hit the switch.
 
Exactly, good question, for what its worth my Mark VII is the same way, never understood it. Haven't used the highs on my LSE to notice if they're on or off with highs on.
 
It's because of energy draw. Having both your high beams and your foglights on is unnecessary. They do 2 opposite things, so when one is activated, the other does not operate.
 
Tomorrow im going to find the relay switch and try it i had no problems on my Ranger so i see no reason that it would be any different on this car.
 
fact is foglights are there for NO OTHER REASON other than to make your car more visible to other drivers (namely in adverse weather). They are NOT designed to help you see better. So, if your highbeams are on there shouldn't be anyone that needs to see you. BTW I doubt it has anything to do with energy draw as the power difference is very slight between low and high beams. FWIW HID's headlamps stay on when the brights are on.
 
I would hope there's a relay to do this but I doubt you will be so lucky on the LS. All this is likely integrated into some sort of integrated module, like the DDM or FEM or whatever

I disagree with that Beaups. When I get into dense fog (not often in Arizona...but a lot in Idaho) I turn my headlights to low beam or even park and drive off the fog lights. I can see a lot better in fog with the fog lights than I can with the headlights.
 
but that's not what they were designed for. same thing with cars (like newer aurora's) with REAR foglights. they're there to make you visible. I think Hoen has some read on all of this.

The idea of a rear foglight is a good one -- and it does make the rear of the car more visible. I'm surprised that it is only available in a few cars (Volvo and BMW come to mind). It is essentially a very bright brake light.

On the front foglights, obviously there will be additional visibility from oncoming drivers since they see four lights instead of two. However, I've found that my foglights provide additional illumination on the left and right sides of the normal headlight beam pattern. To my eye, there is a noticeable difference on side illumination when the foggies are on.
 
I can honestly say my foglights widen my perception off the road directly in front of the car thats why i would like to keep them on at all times, maybe im just getting old and cant see as well as i used to i guess my profession as a welder is taking its toll on my eye site.:rolleyes:

That is so not true. Running your high beams in the fog just lights up the water particles, making it even harder to see. That's why the fogs are down so low. So they light up the road in front of you, and help you see the lane lines or "bots dots". We get a fair amount of fog here, and I'm here to tell you fog lights (when installed and aimed correctly) help you see to drive! They are also good on dimly lit roads.


As to that rear fog light. I hate it! With all the two-footed drivers around here, it looks like they're driving with their brakes on! I have seen many a domino effect with these guys and someone behind them not realizing what that light is. Now, maybe if they only turned them on in the fog, I'd feel different. And yes, mis-aimed/installed fog lights on when it isn't foggy also "bothers" me.
 
guys you're missing my point. I'm not saying that fog lights don't help at all...I'm stating that that's not what they are DESIGNED for. And you wouldn't use your HIGH BEAMS in the fog, so it makes sense they turn off...

But, they are designed for the fog. Their position and beam pattern is such to only light up a wide, short distance of the road.

Well guys i went out found the relay in my car and tried the mod and either i bent the wrong tab over or this mod just doesnt work on this car, so in the process of bending the tab back over i broke it:eek:,good thing i have a soldering iron i broke it out soldered the pieces back together and now i have my lights back:D .

Hey GreyGhost (Ken) how much would it be to change out all of my lights to the Hoen Xenonmatch Plus Bulbs
 
As I understand it the whole light thing was changed on the 03+ models. Mine are set up so that lows and fogs can be run, The High & Low Beams come on with the High Beams and my Fogs go out. So, at least on my 04 no more than 4 lights are ever on at the same time. Since I am one of the oldest members (age), I will venture that fogs have always been for visibility, but they used to have a very sharp cutoff, low in the field of vision to avoid light scatter and allow the driver to see better. That is why driving lights had different lens that projected down the road. White light also reflects off the moisture of fog and can completely obscure your field of vision. Lately, manufactures have confused the issue with lenses that no longer have the sharp cutoff as in the past.

Ah man am i to late i left early to get a start on the New Year i would definately like to pick these up from you since i cant have all my lights on at once id like to atleast have the best available lights in my ride anything is better than the stock ones.
