    2001 Lincoln Continental, R.I.P.

Have it towed to location A, shop, dealer, whatever, have them do any minor thing that keeps them happy, pick a location B and have it towed there, repeat. Never tried it myself, but two shop owners I talked to say they have customers cars that get AAA towed to and from their shop for service...

    Motorcraft warranty only through seller

Bought some struts off ebay and Amazon, both failed within a year, Ford says warranty is only through the seller. Ebay seller blew me off since it was a couple months later. Amazon initially said 30 days returns, but looks like they are willing to take it back when I pointed out the sales...

WTB 9902 Cont front seats in parchment or cheap

My 99 Cont just had both seats start to tear, starting at the middle seam of the middle bottom cushion. Backs and bolsters seem ok, so ideally I am looking for a pair of nice front bucket seats in parchment leather, no need for backs but if shipping isn't bad I would take whole seats.. Spare...

    New tires!

Michelin Defenders went on when my strut sprayed its goo and wrecked the rubber bushing on our 99. I've never been happier with a set of tires, its almost creepy smooth, generally quiet, but makes noise going over cracks etc. No issues with traction, but never had any. The smoothness suits the...

    Front struts - replace

I've had two new factory struts fail. Original failed my fault, nasty bump in the road at speed. Most recent one sprayed the fluid out the side fitting, the one the electronics hook up to I think, destroyed all the rubber bushings on that side of the car and wrecked a good set of tires. Still I...

    2001 Lincoln Continental, R.I.P.

Not all Continentals get transmission problems, and many that do get them go through several during the 50k mile warranty, so hard to say exactly what failed, but buying a car off a used car lot needs more than a little inspection, ideally PRIOR to purchase. Too bad on the giving it away to the...

    99 Conti, whats new

Swapping just the motor is a good way to go, and decent prices can be found on replacement motors if you have some time to look and wait on shipping. Once the motor goes AC doesn't work very well and car gets hot with just one motor running, and of course once you pull the shroud the job needs...

    Strange sound

Locating a sound it can help to have somebody either drive the car or roam around back seat or trunk to pin point. Spare tire and/or hold down in trunk?

    Brake replacement

I got my rotors from Amazon, but I try to stick with Motorcraft unless its not available or known bad, and Amazon had them cheapest. Rockauto has had some warehouse deals on conti brake parts that are not OEM, but decent brands of pads etc. I didn't do the swap on mine, but recall my Mark VII...

    High Output Alternator questions

I'm thinking my 99 has the regulation control done from the ECU, not stand alone, but it might work that way too.

    4.6 Horsepower differences?

98 to 99 was the switch to dual exhausts too wasn't it? That is like 10hp. I never drive our 99 that hard, the whimpy Taurus transmission has me spooked, plus when I want to go fast, that's why I have other cars.

    Steering Wheel Mod/Upgrade

You are so lucky, none of the pick a part type boneyards in SoCal have any late model conti's, or even related. Seems like there are a few special yards in our area that buy all the nicer cars to keep the prices on parts high.

    2001 Continental Exhaust upgrade

Long tail pipe after the muffler can end up sounding like a farm tractor. I'm stock on the Conti, but put Walker turbo's on my Mustang and 14" Magnaflow on my v8 Porsche, its about the limit on loud for the street. Very happy with my sound system, mostly stock, with a Bazooka bass tube in the...

    01 Conti overheating problem.

What radiator did you get, factory or? Did you check the old radiator for problems? Two things happen when RPM goes up, water pump AND alternator spin faster, how is your battery and battery cables/connections? Did it fix it?

    99 Conti, whats new

Owned since new, hit the $$$ wall a few years back around 135k miles, not the transmission, nothing major even, but pesky and money eating; Rear air bags, solved with Arnott replacements, bags and orings, not drier or compressor which are still fine. Front struts, replaced left twice, right...

    New tires!

Maybe a change in tire height (rev/mile)? 26 vs 24 seems unlikely related to rolling resistance.

    99/02 driver mirror glass

Picked up our car in the middle of the night at an airport parking lot, couple days later noticed some cheesy stick on mirror instead of the factory. Ours is heated, tilt, auto dim, but I am open to suggestions to get rid of the POS the parking lot stuck on after I assume breaking or stealing...

    99 Lincoln Conti no fuel

Any parts places near you with free Alldata or Mitchell on demand? I think you have done what can be done without a real manual. Maybe it time to find a good shop and let them look it up?

    99 Lincoln Conti no fuel

Our 1999 Conti was occasionally dying, with a hard or no restart, then fine at the repair shop after a tow, then week or so later died again. We replaced the crazy expensive fuel pump assembly, but the eventual problem was the fuel pump control module (controls voltage to the pump to set fuel...

    stop lamp bulb

Don't touch the bulbs with fingers, and good time to replace them ALL. Test before your button it all up.
