Hi everyone I have searched and seen many threads re: tire size and haven't found one that confirms largest front tire on a 18x8 with 40ET

I found these rims for a great price locally and they looked brand new. I seen them before (new), but didn't like the 10 holes (dual bolt pattern) and keep looking. When I seen this great deal, I went to see how they would look on the M8. With the pattern of the black strip running up each of the 5 stars, it looked to me like part of the design of the wheel (not so much extra holes) and liked them enough to purchase them.

So now the questions are size and which logo to use: Cobra or Lincoln Star. I did some searching to find the right diameter and found these two would fit. See pics.

Second question: Can I run a 255/55/18 on all four corners? I ask as they came with 225/40/18 and they look close to the rear wheel well and I an ASHAM8 equipped.

anyone notice what I just noticed?

The first pic has the 5x108 pattern in between each of the 5 stars (see where the bolt is) at the point of the "v" so to speak.

The second pic has the 5x108 pattern in the middle of each 5 star. (at the black strip) WTF - did they drill them opposite? There is no way I could bolt in a 5x110 on our 5x108 pattern, could I? I do not believe I didn't notice this before now.

I have a different width wheel (9) with a larger offset (63) but I run 255/45/17 and if I have a trunk full of stuff, passengers in the rear seat, AND I drive aggressively or hit serious bumps then I have slight tire to fender contact in the rear. This is with the poverty coils replacing the air suspension. I have been thinking about adding air lift bags but I haven't had tire to fender contact in awhile.

Lincoln star for the caps.
18x8 +40 with 255s should not have any real clearance issues.

108 and 110 are close, since its a diameter, the holes would only be off by 1 mm.
they might bolt up without too much issue.

Thanks Chris, the 225 fit fine, I want to "upsize" to a 255/45/18. I have read that a 245/45/18 will fit and would think the 255 would too, not being that much larger, but the 225 on the rear look close to the fender as they sit now and wanted to confirm before purchasing the larger tires.

Thanks guys!

I thought the same and liked the the way the star cap left a black circle around the emblem - it fit in with the black strips on the rims . I found a set of Lincoln Star emblems on ebay in great condition and also purchased the Cobra emblems that could be placed over the original centre caps that came with the rims. I'm happy the original M8 Lincoln centre caps fit these rims!

Here is how they look on the M8 with the undersized tires that came with the rims. It looks decent, however I think the 255/45/18's will help fill the space in the wheel wells, plus put my speedo back to stock. I could just lower her down with the ASHAM 8. This would lower ride quality and besides, a 225 is just too freakin small for the M8. These should have came stock with at least a 245/50/16.

I had a set of 18x9 FR500's with 255/55-18 Nittos all around on the '93.

When first installed the rears would rub slightly at sensor lowered height at highway speeds on rough roads. However I could turn the suspension off in the trunk to prevent lowering at speed as a work-a-round. Once the ASHAM8 was installed, it didn't take much to find the correct height setting to prevent rubbing at all but the most extreme circumstances.

As far as the center caps...

I have the Cobra centers that came with my wheels, but like every one else, it isn't a Cobra, and I found some bullet shaped ones (for my bullits, they help add depth to the wheels). If I didn't get such a great deal on 25th anniversary Cobra brake calipers I would have gotten the Mach I black ones.

Thanks Driller! Looks Sweet! I like the blue on blue and like the matching Star value cap. Great attention to detail!!

What was the offset on those FR 500's?

Thanks, if I remember correctly, it is 40mm offset.

Thanks, if I remember correctly, it is 40mm offset.

Thanks I think that would mean those would stick out a half an inch on the front and half an inch on the back, compared to mine only being 18x8's. Thus may not rub. I will let you everyone know!

If you can use the Lincoln centers on those wheels, that would look great with the flat spokes. I can't use the centers on my wheels, and until I find some flat blanks and get some Lincoln centers printed up, I went with these:

I am not sure that a 9 inch wide wheel with 40mm offset would work, I think mine are 63mm offset and other than needing a 3/16 spacer in front to keep them off the spindles, they are perfect.

Here is what I'm running, a reproduction 2012 Mustang 18X9, bolt pattern of a 5 on 4.5" (5x114.3) with a 45mm offset.

On those wheels are 245/45/18 Nitto 555 and I have an Asham8 to control the ride hight so I have no rubbing issues.

There you go Don! Why choose? Have both!! Sweet!!!

to Markviiiedrea - if you lowered her down with the Asham8 would the 245's rub or tuck under the rear fenders?
