Replacing the system with coils altogether. No band-aids, no hoping nothing else goes out, or wondering when it WILL go out on a 21 year old car. In short, no fooling around. This thing is a money pit. In too deep to bail now.

It seems there are a few problems with this 21 year old air ride system. bags are leaking, front height sensor is bad. I'm pretty sure I'm replacing it with springs; I just can't throw the $$ into it to re-do the air system correctly. Nor do I want to do the Band-Aid Dance. SO, now the question...

Thanks. I'm starting to think it's not 'A' bag, since it's down evenly, and used to leak out overnight in cool weather symmetrically, too. Could be BOTH bags? Or maybe the solenoid? I'll keep ya'll posted .....

Hello, again. Now, the front air is out completely, chin nearly on the ground. The pump still works, but no change in height. I suppose it could be any number of things. Any ideas for most likely culprit? Thx SoT

I love my Mk8. I really do. It's a great car, 70k, but it's my daily driver, has minor air ride issues, and it's 20 years old. So, I'm seriously considering springs, so I don't have to worry about being randomly, suddenly incapacitated. IF that's my choice, what brand would you all suggest? I...

@fordknutt, both sides leak down in front. 'Bouncy' means it kind of hovers a bit over rolling dips, goes higher in reaction that I would expect. @All: I'm going to try sensor lowering. I still wonder how it got to the current height. They say, always turn off air suspension before lifting...

Thank you all. I still wonder what to do about the "bouncy" ride and mediocre handling, which I am convinced us due to the excessive height. There could be two problems here. Idea: what happens when a technician neglects to switch off the air ride system before lifting the car off its wheels?

Thanks for your reply. I take it that replacing the head unit with a modern, aftermarket unit would entail rewiring, since everything from the stock unit goes to the amp before the speakers. Also, I find the placement of the rear speakers to be troubling for anyone in the back seat!

Aren't stock Mark VIII wheels 39mm offset? It sure looks like more than an 8mm difference.
