After nearly a decade, it's time for some maintenance on my 01' 5 speed

A little update after 2k miles or driving: Coils fixed the misfire, runs like a too! The car starts to get warm if I sit in traffic long enough. The fan is pulling air through the radiator but doesn't kick to high speed, I'm guessing this is the famous hydraulic fan issue I read about years...

After nearly a decade, it's time for some maintenance on my 01' 5 speed

Where are you guys finding quality parts these days? For the first time in nearly a decade(ok, 8 years) I'm going to pull the intake off my 2001 V6 manual trans LS. I'm doing it because I had a coil fail on the drivers side last year(must be a record for time on a set of coils!) and can now...

Took 7 years for another coil failure

The Accel Coils lasted as long as I can expect I suppose but I'm not entirely sure they are the culprit. I was driving hard through the mountains after leaving a construction zone when I noticed my coolant temperature creeping up(I think my thermostat is sticking). On my way back it headed up...

Performance comparison of 5 speed to v8

Yes, by 5 speed I mean a 5 speed MTX. Interesting fact about the 5 speed MTX, it has no overdrive yet yielded the same rated MPG as the automatic (3.07 rear gear). I personally net 27MPG easily on 70/30 hwy/city since my new tune. Another interesting fact is parts for the transmission are...

Performance comparison of 5 speed to v8

My 01' 5 speed has the mods below but prior to the new tune it had no problem keeping up with my brothers stock 03' from a roll and at above 130mph I would start passing him then he would hit his limiter and it was game over. From a dig he would get me because the tune I had at the time lacked...

Electric Fan conversion, now no heat or A/C

Yea, that's what I thought. I might have to pass on this one. He said the cats need replacement and the drivers window won't go down. He's only asking $1000, I thinking more like $500.

Electric Fan conversion, now no heat or A/C

Alright, I'm looking at buying a 2000 v8 that has been converted to an electric fan. The owner claims both the heat and a/c worked before the conversion and now both don't because, as he says, the computer won't let them work because the hydraulic pump is gone. This seems seriously suspect to me...

Another shudder thread, but this appears to be different

Gotcha. I did not change the plugs but I did check them and check their gaps not very long ago and they were good, no funny colors/buildups either. I do most of my work on diesels these days so I get a little rusty on gas stuff. I didn't ohm check the wires though, so I'll do that. I have a...

Another shudder thread, but this appears to be different

Forgot, it's a 96' so gen 1. I'm not looking to do a quick fix as I'm going to be giving this to my mom so I want to do it right. When I think tune-up, I think engine, are you referring to the trans?

Another shudder thread, but this appears to be different

My mark 8 has a shudder that occurs 80% of the time but the other 20% it's smooth. It does it in any gear, any throttle condition and sometimes seems to shake at idle. Usually it doesn't do it at WOT but sometimes it shakes super bad at WOT. When it shakes bad it has a sort-of booming/rattle...

Replaced clockspring, two weeks later beeping comes back.

So after checking the connection under the seat last night it hasn't made a sound. Connect must be loose under there.

Replaced clockspring, two weeks later beeping comes back.

What makes me thing it's the clockspring again is that it doesn't always happen right after start-up, sometimes it happens after I've been driving a bit (and I'm not talking about the reoccurring beeping that happens every 20 minutes). I just checked the under seat connecting and it's still...

Replaced clockspring, two weeks later beeping comes back.

I finally replaced my clockspring after needing to do it for years. I finally did it because my bulb burned out and was tired of the beeping and having to explain to guests what it meant. Two weeks and everything is great, no beeping, cruise control works again, horn works for the first time...

Stock temperature for the electric fan turn on.

Your custom tune or stock tune? I'm going off the OBDII port for my temperatures so if it's 190 then the switch is definitely bad.
