"Every time I seen a Mark it drivin by some old Guy"
Hey, I'm that old guy you are talking about. That makes it the ultimate sleeper for me. I have embarrased more than one ricer!
Did you notice any ball bearings on the floor? The column travels in and out on a upper and lower set contained in a plastic housing. The bearings are contained in a "V" channel with a stop at each end. The cable refered to stops the column from hitting the bearing stops and breaking them off...
Factory CD changers are a POS. After market 10 disks can be had for about $300.00 that work with the factory radio. To release your magazine, slide a thin knife blade in under the cartridge at about bottom center. It's about 3" back. This will release the cartridge.
Good news for anybody looking for new rims, chrome or painted.

I just received a new painted 10 spoke for $100 plus $20 for shipping. Looks good. I will be having it installed this weekend. The chrome one is $225. Bad news is center cap...
Can you exchange computers between two base 97's? My computer has been flashed and a friend wants to see the difference it will make in his car. Also, is information such as memory settings or message center settings stored on the computer? Will both cars return to "normal" after the computers...
My 97 had both problems. If the column won't come down put slight upward pressure on the wheel when it starts to move. The part is called the "potentiometer", for up/down movement. A common problem. I hope it's ok to mention the "other" site. Go to markviii.org, There is a write up with pictures...
Don't rule out the radiator fan. My 97 runs smooth as silk till it comes on then I notice a slight vibration. Also, what about the motor mounts? I hear they are liquid filled and prone to problems. Just a guess about the mounts but worth looking into.
Gen 1 or Gen 2? (Please at least put that in your profile so we don't have to guess, sometimes it matters) Check and clean the electrical connectors on the wheel sensors and ABS pump. Use dielectric grease on them to help seal out water and corrosion. BTW, sometimes the people that can answer...
For comfort/refinement it's gen2. A chip will make a gen2 very comparable to a gen1 without a chip. (OK, I said it. Gen1 is a little faster. Are you happy now?) When was the last time a gen1 owner said "I love my headlights" ? Neon looks cool! Seats more comfortable. (cup holders SUCK!) But get...
Yes, it worked after pump replacement. The problem with mine was electrical (corroded plug terminal at pump). The error is because the computer cant get data from the wheel sensor (mark viii) which tells the computer wheel rotation. From that the computer does the math for abs, trac control...
