In-dash for Mark 8 for sale?

Question: I'm doing my car stereo install tomorrow. I also bought the install kit that looks like Sbcaprice's picture.

So far I've removed the factory deck and I'm a little concerned that there doesn't seem to be much support inside to keep the aftermarket double din (actually, a single din Kenwood Exceleon and Pioneer DSP EQ together) from bouncing around.

SBCaprice, have you had any problem with your nav deck bouncing around / loose / rattling around?

The opening for the dd is what holds it in place. Just keep trimming little by little till the dd slides in nice and firm.

As far as securing the equipment you listed useing the dd kit...I have no idea. :(

OK, cool. I will do that.

Putting two singles together is actually not so bad. When they are together, the bolt holes line up with the kit just as if they were a double-din stereo.

That should make things easier then. I've never messed with installing 2 singles inside a double before.

Remember to take pics. :D

I just ordered one of these:

NS378_VA_999.jpg

It's a Boss DVD/CD/MP3/SD/USB/AM/FM receiver with a 6.2" touch screen. It's not one of the high dollar name brands (<$300 from Fingerhut), but it looks like it will be fun to play with.

I have never messed with any of these DVD player decks before. I have heard that the movie player feature won't work without the parking brake engaged. Is this true? And if so, has anyone ever installed any type of bypass for this? I know it's for safety purposes so the driver doesn't get distracted by the movie playing on his dashboard, but if this radio does have that feature (I don't know if it does or not, it wasn't in the description), I'd like to know how to bypass it.

On the pioneers they have a relay you have to use for around $10. On the Boss you might beable to just ground the parking brake wire.

I have the bypass on mine and I think i've used the dvd feature while driving once. Figured I mine as well do it while I was in there.

I really do hope it's as easy as just grounding the wire. I know a guy who has a single din DVD player with a 3" LCD in his '97 F-150 and his will play a movie while driving down the road. I need to call him and see how he did it. When I get home I'll either google it or maybe look it up on youtube.

I dislike Pioneer from when I used to be an installer. Love ALPINE but unless you get it used your not getting it cheap. Also no kit was needed for the install.

It sat in the dash when I originally installed it.
That statement makes no sense. "From when I was an installer"? What did you not like about them? The highest resolution screens in the industry? Or was it the high level of features and sound proccesing abilities? Maybe the easy to use menu system? Oh, it was prolly cause they NEVER come back because they break unlike Alpine. Could it be that they were less expensive then a Kenwood/Alpine/Clarion with fewer features? Maybe its the very versitile crossover setup they have.

Yes Alpine makes some decient stuff but only their highest end stuff. Alpine has long since had noise issues with their screen based systems.

BTW, your deck needs to be moved 2-3 MM to the left.

OP, not sure what your budget is but if it were me I would hunt on ebay for a used Pioneer Z110/120/130. They are all the same just with updated software. You can usually find a Z120 with the Z130 upgrade for under $700. Has the nicest menu system and the screen resolution is spectacular. They even have Pandora radio. Whats really killer is you can load all your music onto its internal 80gb hard drive and never need an iPod/CD/MP3 or flash drive again. :)

Taking the pics will probably make someone regurgitate everything that they've even for the day. :D

BTW, what's the blue box that sits behind the radio? Is that safe to remove? It's not clearing my deck install

Sry for the huge pic. I want to say it has something to do with the srs. Heres where I put mine.

:(Crap. I paid $259. The only reason I got it through Fingerhut is because I can't drop that much money all at once because I don't have it. But I really wanted one of those head units. With FH I can pay monthly. And if I pay it off before September, no interest. And it's already been shipped anyway. Oh well. Manure occurreth...

Well, I ended up having to put it in the cavity, left of the stereo opening but so far so good. Seems that single-din's need more depth than a DD, and we're talking about two of them.

Got my Boss 6.2" LCD head unit in the mail yesterday. Looks pretty cool. Also got a Ford wiring harness adapter kit so I won't have to cut any of the wires under the dash. And I did some research and it seems that I can just ground the parking brake wire to make the video play all the time. Hopefully I'll have it installed Saturday.

Yeah. That would work and I appreciate the suggestion. But if all I have to do is ground the parking brake wire, why would I spend another $35 bucks and wait another week for it to get here when I can just install the radio Saturday and ground the wire and be watching movies on the way home? I did quite a bit of research online on this particular head unit and found it to be the easiest to bypass. According to what I have learned, grounding the e-brake wire works just fine to bypass the e-brake lockout. So I'll try that. If it works, yay:) If not, back to the drawing board:(

Pictures of the DVD install. I still have a little gap on each side that I have to fill. And I had to trim the hell out of the opening to make the dam thing fit. Why don't they make double-din stereos a standard size? Anyway, it's fun:D

And grounding the e-brake wire did the trick. Videos will play any time, even when the car is in motion.:)

Im looking to put an in-dash in my Mark 8, was wondering if anyone has one for sale good condition? or a good one i can get new that fits the best?

Did you ever find/install one in your Mark?

I like mine a lot. But unfortunately I can't change my background images:( I was hoping that I could put a big Lincoln emblem on there or something. I guess that's what I get for not getting a "name brand". Oh well. It's still cool as heck!
