NIB halogen housings with dual HID kits

Hey, guys I checked the local auto parts store (advance auto), and they said they can get our 1st gen mark viii lights for like 400 for both. I just thought I would pass on the info to everyone looking for lights. I will possibly pick some up for mine.

are they for real? the actual headlights? let me know if theyre brand new and if i can order them, ill take a pair mine look clear but the chrome is :q:q:q:q so i can barely see 10 feet in front of me. i need the regular halogen ones, not hid

Because they are old. They only make things for so long and with the Mark VIII only being a 5 year old run that stopped in early 98, they won't keep on making things for it. As a matter of fact, I doubt they are making anything for them anymore. Just like the new air shocks. They are showing to be made in 2008
See bottom right date.

craaaapp. i may need to stock up on a set...

when your hi beams are on do both come on? when you bought lights they came with hid's or you bought somewhere else? ive got gen 2 was going to get halogen housings and convert, or blackout mine and go projector.i recently had brain storm of keeping stock hid's and converting high to 8 or 10k when hi's are on the lows are off going to wire themboth on hi

Mine do but my switch is wired for it. When I push my switch forward, the lows never blink and as for the people that say flicking the highs off and on will blow a bulb... I have done it so many times in a row, just to see and never had a bulb blow. I done this about 20 to 30 times after they were heated up. The only reason I have swapped the highs over to 10K was to have something to do one night in the garage. The 6K that were in there were the ones I blinked, over and over. They still work fine.

Keep your stock HID's and convert for a Gen 2. Get with DLF on the adapter rings you'll need. If I'm not mistaken, Gen 2's with HID's can be turned on bright and the low beam will stay on.

On a Gen 1, always install a relay harness because if not, you'll turn them on and if parked close to a wall or garage door, you'll notice within seconds, the left side will dim down and then the right side follows. It's not nothing bad but the relay harness will stop that and keep them strong.

I think whoever told you that was smoking crack. Not saying it's impossible but I find it hard to believe. Maybe Sylvania is making another run of the halogen housings for Advance Auto but the LSC housings surely won't happen. $400 for both does sound about right too. They aren't listed on their website as of yet.

Are the different housings? I didn't know and am new to mark viii's (only had this one about a month)

As far as I know, Sylvania are the only ones that have the patent on the Gen 1 housings. There isn't enough demand out there for someone else to throw the cash out to make an aftermarket housing for a car that is rarely seen on the street. Make sense?

I never thought about looking at the date on mine to see when they were made but I did buy them in 2010 but I also bought the new air shocks just within the past two weeks and they were dated 2008. Now you're starting to see Arnott fading out and when the Motorcraft are gone, I would almost bet, they're gone for good. Their 10 years is up. They are not required to continue making the parts needed for our cars.

Dam sexy nolimit
I like when someone is willing to spend some money on good parts
Especially on here with so many people who complain about the price of parts vs. what they paid for the car.

Just a quick question. Do i have to disable my drl when installing hids? I did on my grand prix and was as simple as removing the fuse. If i have to do this could someone please let me know.... Also do i have to remove the "flash" function for when I lock the car.
Thanks for the help

you have DRLs? i've never seen a mark with those before. you in canada or something?
and no on the flash when locked. not a big deal.

Nope, I am in MI. and my lights are always on (i am pretty sure at least). And on my grand prix I was told that was bad for the ballests and bulbs and disable that.

No and no. Just install the bulbs into the housings and make sure they are turned in all the way. Using your fingers alone on the low beam can be a little tough sometimes. I used channel locks and lightly grabbed a hold of the bulb base (where your fingers would be during twist in) and I finished getting them into the last 1/4 of a turn and then you'll know to stop. Maybe your bulbs will twist right in and can be turned all the way by hand but mine were a tight twist.

It's good to install the relay harness on the lows at least so that you get all that you can get out of them. Not all kits work the same and you might run into the problem with the passengers side light not coming on with the first switch turn on. Some bulbs will flicker, even while running down the HWY at 2000 rpm's. The relay kit can be bought for right at $10.00 with a 40 amp relay.

As for the "flash" you're talking about, I'm assuming you mean the double press of the remote button? Either way, it's not going to hurt them. I have flashed mine with the alarm so many times, I lost count 2 years ago. Even flashing the highs off and on hasn't blown a bulb and I have set and done it over and over just to be testing them out. The bulbs I done this with were already in the car when I bought it in Jan of 2010. They still shine bright and work just as good as they did when I got the car. I have extra bulbs in the car just in case one were to blow. You can get the relay kit here and it works just fine. No need in spending $20 and $30 for a relay kit.

With 58,645 transactions and having a 99.6 feedback rating, I would say they're doing something right.

Does your switch not turn that off? It's not going to hurt anything but there isn't any need in driving around with headlights on during the day, unless it's raining and here where I live, it's a law to have them on but not enforced. I keep my (daytime running lamp) switch off at all times.

Thanks for clearing that up. I just wanted to make sure before i opened and tried to install them. I got one set today but haven't got to put them in.

Well I put my low HID's in tonight and they suck. My housing are just to bad and I think the reflectors are shot :(. So i went and ordered new/used ones. I know not the best bet to go, but I am not going to drop 650 for new ford housings. Just thought I'd give that update

a new set from ford is expensive but at this rate, if you can't find any good used sets or re-do them yourself, then thats really your only option. that or get a gen 2 lol. i'm going to have to buy a new set from ford soon.
