So today as I was driving the LS lagged and when I came to a complete stop it shut off, restarted it and noticed its knocking loud from what seems to be the top passenger side of the motor.

No lights came on, Oil is full and no over heating. The knocking is loud under acceleration other wise seems to run fin just sluggish....Any ideas...its a V6 1st Gen with 107K

Thanks Fellas

The knocking noise is probably triggering the knock sensor and causing the PCM to retard timing as much as it is allowed to. That could be why it is sluggish.

As for the knock itself, I'm not aware of any common causes for the 3.0, but I have little experience with the V6. The simple answer is that something is hitting something else. The complicated part is figuring out what the two somethings are and why they are getting too close to each other (valve versus piston) or why they are getting too far apart (rod bearing). Of course, maybe it is something less drastic than this.

Either way sounds like its going to be costly to fix......if I need an engine, drastic I know, mind as well change it to the V8

Probly karma knocking.. :p

:Beer

Well played, I cant say anything to that since it made me chuckle a bit....

F off was the last thing i was told... so good luck.

BUT, for those who run into this problem in the future.... for the extra cost it would take to swap a V8, doesnt seem the Hp to $$$ ratio would be worth it...

Here is the correct (least expensive, least grief) procedure for that:

1. Sell present V6 LS.
2. Buy used V8 LS.

It's me.....it's me!!!

I agree it wouldn't be worth it.....after getting off the phone with the place that has a few V8's the cost would be ridiculous.

started looking to see what was out there in my area, there are a few good ones. Ill know more when the guy lets me know tomorrow on the issue.

Funny I would have had to screw someone over for bad Karma,,,,,,did I no give you all your money and more ASAP...Ow yes I did, good point next subject please.

Sometimes, which you have yet to learn, poor principles present the biggest karma of all. Not money.

Later in life you may learn that lesson. Evidently, you still have not.

In the meantime, I want to offer a "sincere apology" just like the one you pm'd me.

Remember? ;)

Knock knock....

I remember and it still stands today as my very most humble and sincere apology I could offer to you

Until of course the day we can sit and have a few beers together, and I "forget" my wallet ;)

I just spoke to a place that has a 2005 V6 with 55k and they said that the 2000 V6 cannot be interchanged with any other year V6, has anyone heard this before?

You certainly can't swap between generations (2000=genI, 2005=genII).
Some of the key differences are variable valve timing and electric vs hydraulic fan.

Good to know....Thanks for the info

Gen 2 in a gen 1? Not happening. LOL.

Knock knock....

Good thing Ive already been able to locate a v6 with 62K for just under $1200......

at least I have the money to have it shipped and installed, would have sucked to other wise have a paper weight till I could afford to.

Thanks for the info though

Good luck and hopefully won't cost you an arm and a leg. Especially since you just did all the other work to it.

Thanks. Yea it sucks, wasn't a cost I planned on but things happen. Hopefully the engine wont to be replaced. If so the shop has quoted me about 1500 to have the motor installed. Will know more tomorrow.

So as it turns out I need a new engine:

I think my mechanic said I had a bent rod (No homo). I really wasn't listening just heard new engine. So after deliberating on what I am going to do I stumbled upon a wrecked 01 V6 with a shed under 52k sitting in a local salvage yard. After some negotiating on the price I scored it for 1k even.

So it got me thinking with the savings on the engine, planned on spending upward of 2k for it I decided hell why not do the exhaust and the suspension all at once...lol so here's how its looking:

1. New engine installed
2. Magnaflow cat back exhaust
3. Eibachs installed

Now I figured while everything is torn down, should I dress the engine up a bit?

I was thinking of taking the valve covers and maybe paint or powder coating them, but what color would be good?

what else would look good painted or powder coated to dress it up a bit?

in the end with all the money into it already, with paint and body work coming up and how much I really do enjoy the car, the motor going was just another cost worth spending.

Thanks for the ideas fellas, much appreciate any input.

Glad to see you are fixing it and not buying something else.:) Looking ofrward to seeing it. whens its all done.

Thanks, yea in the end I couldn't see it go to the scrap yard...even if I wanted to replace the whole car, I would have spent more to start over.....It puts the fenders back a little but owell what can you do.
