Is there such a thing as a "beef'd up" alternator that can handle more amps??? I installed an electric fan that runs continuously and seems to drain the battery. Will the v8 alternator fit and does it hold more amps? HELP!!!!

Yes, there are higher output aftermarket alternators. Most on here who have tried, have had bad luck with aftermarket alternators.
If you have a V8, the the V8 alternator will fit. If you have a V6, then the V8 alternator will not fit.
The gen I V6 and gen I V8 alternators have the same power output, 1575 watts give or take.

Yes

You can buy a higher output ALT for the LS on ebay, Buy quality, do not buy a reman Alt., buy new always.

If no one can even trust the autozone/advanced whatever stores alt's why would ebay even be a better choice??? I beg to differ. My REMAN Motorcraft has been going strong for the past 6 months, and its still the best option for our cars.

From other posts on the forum, Motorcraft alts are only remanned, the don't make new ones anymore.

Just installed my new DB Electrical 200 amp and it works fine. The PowerMax 200 amp ebay alternator sucks. My car is running a little rough at the moment but that is an unrelated issue...I hope

Update, the DB Electrical alternator is junk as well. It doesnt generate enuf power at idle and light go dim. Go with OEM alt. Just my 2 pennies

Hmm....makes me want to have the db I own rewound locally before installing.

Good to know, my LS is waiting at the dealer for a particular alternator. I was wondering if I was wasting my time and should have just gotten one from advance.

Good info.

I dont know what the deal is with these alternators. They just dont seem to put out enuf juice at idle. I bought a used alt at a local salvage yard for $37 for a temp fix and to verify it was the new alternator causing the lights to dim at idle. The used alt worked fine with no dimming issues. I'm considering buying a underdrive pulley from DB Electrical when I send the HO alt back and putting it on the used alt I bought to see if it gives me a few more amps. I'd be happy with 130-150. That should be enuf for my electric cooling fan. I dont have any amplifiers in the trunk so I dont need a huge gain, just a little.

Someone needs to make a dual alt kit lol.

Hmmmm, I have removed my hydraulic fan pump. I wonder if another alt would fit in its place? Probly not, the fan pump is pretty small. It would be nice if someone made a HO alt that worked and didnt cost $600+

I have dual amps that do cause some dimming at certain intervals. In other words, when I jump on the volume. LOL.

If you want a good alternator get an HO 6G 200 amp from QuickStart. You can get one with a dual bridge remote rectifier, etc, etc for $429. I tried the HO alternators from this company, and they will take a beating. Do it right the first time and you won't be banging your head against the wall every time one of those "so called" HO alts crap out over and over.

I may give that one a try. I tell you what...Im so tired of taking these alternators out and putting another one in only to get the same result.

Cent....have you tried one in an LS or have good experiences in other vehicles with their products?

I dont think those will fit. Theyre large case and ours is a small case?? Dont know if you could make a gen II alt work....it cranks out more amps.

The pic they show looks like a Gen2 but the listing below it says they make one for the Gen1. If the case is larger I dont think you can get it in without removing the lower control arm, It would be worth the extra work and a trip to the alignment shop if it worked but thats a BIG if...

Yes I have a v6 and I have a motorcraft case it looks stock but its 250amps they took someparts off of a excursion altinator ....... It works fine no dimming.... But check dcaltinators.com they can add any amps and even engraving... I think that's the site not sure

No kidding? ;) Sagged down to, oh, 11.5V or so below 1000 RPM?

I have used their alternators for all of my MKIII supras I have owned, and also on my wife's CRV. Trust me, these things are bulletproof. Just give them a call and they will be able to help you out if you are unsure of fitment. They have great customer service and know what they are doing.

I didnt measure the voltage but my headlights were dim and my electric cooling fan ran slower at idle (6-700) rpm. As soon as I hit the throttle the lights got bright and the fan sped up. With a factory alternator this didnt happen.

It seems that maybe the LS PCM communicates differently with the alternator than most other Ford PCMs do. This will cause problems if they aren't aware of it.

That could be a possibility also. I just figured the amperage output at idle wasn't enuf. The specs on the DB Electrical alternators say they put out around 100 amps at 650 rpms. Maybe it does have something to do with the PCM...
