I haven't created a new thread in a long time, thought it would be a good excuse to post my latest dashcam video:

It was closer than it seems due to the wide-angle lens.

Enjoy :)

Glad you and the car are both safe.

So do you always have it on?

People are idiots on the road.

holy crap that was close! glad you're ok.

wondering the same thing as black, do you always have it on?

Knowing me i would forget to turn it on if i had one. unless it could be wired to always come on when the car starts.

Thanks guys.

As for the "dashcam" - yes, I always turn it on manually when I get in the car, and turn it off when I park. I also have to remove it once every three days (2h battery life) to empty the memory card and recharge it.

The reason I say dashcam in quotes is that I use a sports camera, a GoPro. They're not really intended for dashcam duty, though they can be charged while running.

Many of the real dashcams out there need to be wired in as they don't contain a battery. Once the ignition is on, they'll start recording. Andrizzle just bought one of these for about $250. It comes with GPS (syncable w/ Google Map) and a whole bunch of other cool features.

There are much cheaper alternatives out there though. Check dealextreme.com for <$100 units.

I would've sped up and hit him.:shifty::D

If I was ready to buy a new car, and not a student (in debt), then I would've floored it in hopes of flipping that SOB and totaling his car (and hopefully the occupants).

:shifty:

i had the opportunity to do that do a highway patrol officer who decided he needed to u-turn in front of my diesel on the highway.
but we had just got the truck and i didn't want to deal with the insurance.
that dummy needs to learn to check his mirror before whipping out u-turns to chase down "dangerous" motorists.

Close call!

I've been looking at dash cams as well, the ones witht he google mas, pretty col stuff.

I wanted to do a stealth install with one that looked forward and had an add on option for a second camera that I would place in the rear.

Or also thought about using my rear view camera to record, but that would probably require one of those dvr units.

damn that was close...... whats your main reason for having one??? just in case thing?

It's a cheap insurance policy. I've had a few close calls.. People will do anything to cheat the system, e.g. insurance scams, fake accidents, etc., but video doesn't lie.

Check this out: scam foiled - YouTube

Wow. Makes me wanna get one. Too bad he didn't include the part with the cops :)

Right on!!!! I would have told him and let him get charged with insurance fraud....nice work though

Where did you purchase yours from andrizzle if you dont mind sharing.

That's crazy where do you live that people try that? I don't know how you stayed so calm I would have flipped

Yup, your cam idea is sound. I can't say I see that type of incident everyday, but just about. 96 mile commute that's all city...pretty much see it all.

Might have to look into this camera thing too.
