Car stereo help

I used to be big into car stereos about 10 years or so ago, but really havn't done too much with them in quite a few years. Ive got a pretty decent stereo in my red 96, and am looking into adding some much needed bass to my green 94.

Id really like 1 12" sub with a small (in size, no wattage) amp so I can use as much of my trunk space as possible. I would't have a problem with 2 12"s if the box wasnt too big.

I want it to be fairly loud, but doesnt need to hit anywhere near as hard as my 96 does, just a little something extra to add to the experience.

LOL...was just about to link you some Audioque stuff as well.

Thats what i have but i have the sdc 2.5 and it slams. Can take a beating and the amp will not overheat.

Out of the stuff you linked most of it is garbage and the JL stuff looks good and a decent price for a full combo. But that amp is subpar and so is the 8 gauge wiring.

I would get those subs and box and run them off an AQ amp and 4 gauge minimum wiring. Or for more space and same sound the setup im running right now in my LS.

All AQ amps are beasts....i have the 1200D and my girlfriend has the 750 in her car so i can vouch for them being good amps.

Just depends on how much power you need at the same. They can also run at 1ohm stable.

Amazing subs and amps. Very hard to blow them...but if you do you can send it back and have it reconed for half the price or you can request a recone kit and do it yourself for $50.

Very hard to burn the amps too.

Id recommend the mtx. They make a good product.

I have 3 mtx 10's at 1800W in a ported box and a autotek 1500W amp and it sounds amazing.
 
I was big into it back in the day as well, I'm partial to JL. I don't know if the numbers work like they did back then, but if they do I'd get at least a 12w6.

MTX is ok but its entry level just like Kicker.

They are decent but what i linked has better price per watt ratio.
 
Alpine type r's produce good sound quality but have a low sensitivity rating, meaning they aren't very efficient with the power they need . I also have found that the cone tends to separate from the suspension fairly easily.
The audio que's have a much better power sensitivity, and never kick my amp into protection from heating up so much like the alpine's would. They bass hits much more accurately, and they are much louder!
 
I've got a Single JL W7 ten in my mark viii trunk with a JL HD750/1 amp and is way more than I need bass wise but it does use alot of trunk space. If you want to save room look at the JL tw5 thin 13 inch woofer. It uses hardly any room at all and sounds great. I have one in my single cab F-150 behind the seat being pushed by a JL 500/1

Look around on craigslist for good deals on JL Audio stuff. They are tuff as tanks and hardly ever tear up. Just hook it up before you buy and you will have no worries. I have about 4 grand worth in my system but thanks to C-list and DIY.com I've only invested $1500 total. The only thing I bought new was my 7 inch pioneer dvd player for $350
 
ive got 2 kicker (and will never buy another brand sub) cvr 12" in my trunk and still have access to spare tire well. ive built everything from custom fit fiberglass enclosures to simple off the shelf boxes. found the speakers on ebay,along with a box with the correct air space per subwoofer (1cu ft.each) the box was 49.00. i forget the brand but theyre still there. gothic 1000 watt amp bridged mono for 800 watts each rms total peak 2000watts.i paid 450 for everything including wiring kit and shipping installed it myself from the wheelchair in a day. it has crisp clear bass and adjustable remote gain for amp and will when asked rattle the car next to me!

if i had to choose from your list it would be the 3rd, jl audio they are good entry level subs slightly underpowered by that amp but if you just want fill, not bump it should satisfy you.

I have a single Memphis Power Reference 12 in my Thunderbird with the matching amp. 300 rms I believe, not gonna out pound anyone, but it will make the rest of the stereo sounds worlds better.
