I currently have a stock 98 lsc and id like to give it some more hp and torque. Im not looking to gain 100hp or turn it into a drag car at all i just want to make it a little more peppy and faster

Any ideas would be great preferably little things i dont want to spend thousands into it.

Thanks!

Buying a programmer with a perf tune is a good start. $300-$400~ depending on which one you get. A used unlocked sct2 can be had for around 200 last time I checked. Then send it to a programmer to have a tune or 2 put on.

A tune does absolute wonders for theae cars. Wont add much power but makes much better use of the power it does have.

Tune, gears, and exhaust make these awesome cars soooo much better.

Lonnie at Blue Oval Chips can hook you up.

Tune, jmod, and 3.73 gears. That's an all around great daily driver setup that can be had for less than $1000.

Don't bother searching there isn't much info about this on the site. Sarcasm off.

Like stated jmod, tune and gears are def the best bang for the buck on these cars. I am happy with my tune from Lonnie at BOC as well.

the JMOD is a shift kit that increases the speed and firmness of the transmissions shifts.
its accomplished by increasing the size of the holes in the separator plate of the trans. a google search well give tons of info. lots of good stuff on TCCOA.

3.73s come from whoever has a good price. new is highly suggested. buy a trac-lok as well. 3.73s with a standard open diff will just spin all the power away with a one tire fire.

another option is to buy a complete pumpkin with 3.73s or 4.10s and trac lok already installed. we have the same diff as similar year tbirds and cougars.

Ok thanks and a one more question when buying the X3 Power Flash from BlueOval it asks the 3 program options is that 3 different types of tunes? and also just google 3.73 gears for a mark viii for sale?

for the 3.73 gear and the trac-lok once i have that do i need any gear oil or bearing kit?

You could just drive it down hill, that would make it faster or put flame stickers on it. lol

Pull-a-Part type yards. Rangers and Explorers came with 3.73s and 8.8s and lots of T-birds had posi units that aren't hurt. I would argue you could actually get them cheaper than what Right on the Mark said if you don't mind installing used parts.

nothing against used parts, i used to do that too at the u-pullit in davie, but since the wheelchair last year its a little difficult. i kinda miss it. i do what i can from here and local friend help. unless you know the seller, gears used can be tricky to tell if theyre bad unless theyre really bad.when it comes to rears, unless im taking the whole shebang hub to hub, i leave it to the pro's

You can score used 3.73 out of rangers and stuff all day long off ebay cheap. I really don;t worry about normal take out gears. IE rangers have like 150 hp maybe max. LOL
