Iam in the middle of doing the mod on my car, and I cant decide on weather I should put the lower springs in the accumulators!!!! I know If I leave them out it will shift pretty hard. It is going to be my DD. The car is bone stock and I really have no plans on doing much performance mods. I need some opinions from you guys on this. Please?
Thanks.

I put new ones in when i did mine. I like nice firm shifts I don't need the neck break shifts.

leave them in and get a tune to go with the jmod. you can easily out-shift the traction of the tires.

I changed to a softer lower 1-2 spring and left the stock lower 2-3 spring in.

What would be a softer spring to get? Do you have a part number?

I found the part numbers that I used.

F3LY-7F284-A - Purple - Lower 1-2 Spring
F75Z-7F284-BA - Brown - Upper 1-2 Spring

Arent these the factory springs? That is the color of the factory ones I took out of my trans.

Don't put any springs in the 2-3. It won't shift that hard.

You can put the springs back in the 1-2. You can put however stiff you want going by this chart:

From Stiffest First (Top/Upper spring - the spring you put in first):
F75Z-7F285-BA Brown stock in F-250 (very stiff HARD SHIFT)
1W7Z-7F284-AA Lt. Green stock in 01-05 CV & Mustangs
F75Z-7F284-AA Lt. Blue stock in 98 Mark VIII
F7AZ-7F284-AA White stock in 95-97 Mark VIII
F7AZ-7F284-CA Dark Blue stock in 94 Mark VIII
No spring used in stock upper in 93 Mark VIII or earlier other cars

Stiffer first (Bottom/Lower) Spring:
1L3Z-7F285-AA Brown stock from 01-05 Mustang
F4UZ-7F285-A Pink stock in 97-98 Mark VIII
F3LY-7F285-A Purple stock in 94-96 CV, Bird, Mustang
F7AZ-7F285-BA Violet 93-96 Mark VIII
No spring in bottom for 92 stock

I took out a purple upper 1-2 spring with a redish brown lower.
I went out and purchased the light blue upper as stated in the JMOD instructions.

For the bottom 1-2 spring. Does stiffer mean it will have a harder shift or softer shift? Iam guessing that the stiffer the spring the softer the shift. Is this correct. I say this because if you leave it out it will shift very hard.

I put the Lt. Blue in the Bird as well with the stock bottom (either purple or violet). It shifts good and Daniela likes it, but I would have preferred harder shifts.

So which lower spring would you suggest? Which one would be the next step up from not putting one in at all?

Are you planning on getting a tune?

With a tune, I am going to put the Lt. Green spring in my upper 1-2, and leave the bottom one out.

Without a tune, I would go with Lt. Blue upper, and no bottom one. If you want to soften up more than no bottom, put the Violet bottom.

Fact is, if you are not happy with the firmness, and you don't want to adjust it in the tune, you can pull that pan off and change springs.

Bottom Line? Try the Lt. Blue Upper with the Violet Lower to start with.
If you're not happy with the firmness, and WANT FIRMER, take the Violet Spring out.

That's where I would start with regarding your application from what I feel you are looking for. BTW, don't put any springs on the 2-3 accumulator.

Iirc (i would have to tear it down to check) I used the brown upper and no lower. Under part throttle shifts are nice and crisp but not jarring in any way. Full throttle shifts lay rubber easily.

What level did you drill the holes out to? Did you replace the EPC while you were there?

300hp level. I just found the thread I posted about it. I did in fact use the f75z-ba top spring and ordered but didnt use the f7az-ba lower spring. I did not change the epc. The car had 25k on it when I did it. Everything was perfect.

How about a tune? I'm asking all these questions because I did the Lt. Blue in the Bird, but like I said, I'm not happy with the 1-2 shift. 2-3 shift is perfect. So I was gonna use the the Green (next up stiffer), cause I figured the Brown would hit like a sledge hammer every time it shifted.

BTW, my Mark is stock tranny right now, and if I get on it before it's fully heated up, it will break the tires loose on the 1-2 now!

No tune. Stock 95 lsc ecu.

If you haven't drilled anything go with the brown upper and be sure you have a lower.

Are you talking about when I get into my stock 95 LSC? Or do you mean the Bird which I've already been into (and drilled to the 300hp level).

Oh didnt notice you already drilled the bird. Yeah the brown might be a bit hard.

Yeh, the Bird shifts pretty nice before the tranny warms up, but once it gets hot (and it does run pretty warm like in the 180-190* range), then the 1-2 shifts soften a bit. It's an old, high mileage tranny and the car belongs to Daniela, so I don't worry about it that much. I just picked up a tranny cooler for it, so maybe that will make it act better hot once I get it installed.

Now the Mark, that is MY CAR. I'll prolly try the Lt. Green spring first with no bottom since it already snaps the tires loose cold (and I'm gonna drill it to the 450 level with a new EPC and maybe some Sonnax parts). But you run the Brown and say you are happy with it, so now you've got me considering the brown spring! Hmmmmm.....

:p

Its also been about 3 years since I've driven it :p

Oh, NOWWWW the truth comes out!
