Other then the usual, anything tell-tale I should look for? Mine only has 55K-mi on it so I'm not sure what starts to go when they are around 100K. I'll assume it probably needs to have the major maintenance things (or at least checked out). I'll bring my OBD2 scanner and pull codes, is there anything specific I should run from if I see it?

Anything he should expect to watch out for at that mileage?

Degas bottle and other plastic cooling pieces are probably in order if not changed before. But this is not something to run from.

Sparing anything catastrophically wrong with the car - this forum pretty much has solutions to every common issue.

Look for cleanliness and maintenence!

Look for signs of dried coolant on any of the plastic cooling system parts at the front of the engine. (Of course, even with that I'd buy it if the price were right and figure on spending another $500 or so to fix it.)

The biggest thing is did they always change the oil on time and use the correct oil. That'll be hard to tell. Peer down into the oil fill and see if if looks clean inside.

Yeah, plan on crawling under it to check for cancer, going over the plastic looking for dried coolant, doing donuts in reverse to check for bad wheel hubs and balljoints, some nice slow drives up driveways to listen for tie-rod's and swaybars, and of course a short sprint to see if the tranny slips or engine slumps. Probably have him start it while the hood is up to see if I hear any excessive knocks and squeals like idler pulleys or chains.

It's a gold loaded 2006 with 106K-mi for $8K. Price is good (not great), just needs to be gone over when we go look at it. Just wondering if there are any red flags I should be looking for. What I'm primarily concerned about is the internal engine and tranny condition. Everything else is relatively inexpensive but annoying to fix.

I guess what is concerning is that they have it listed as a 6-cyl online, but the pictures are clearly of the correct car. Guess we'll find out when we get there.

It's amazing how much the people who's job it is to sell cars, don't know about cars.

if you ever watch hgtv you know darn well you don't have to know about it to sell it... some of those agents don't know jack about houses only about selling them....

the saddest part i work for a company that builds real estate websites so i know that even more yet.

I knew a guy who was a carpenter on one of those home improvement shows. He said they would bring in actors and dress them up and they had to teach them what to do on camera to make it look convincing. Then the actual work was done by the real professionals.

I guess they only want clean-cut, plaid-wearing, pretty contractors on TV. The overweight hungover guy wearing a stained up t-shirt can do the work when the cameras are off. LOL

"Reality" TV... sure, when you live in fantasy land.

Kumba I saw that one listed here in Tampa bay it looks pretty clean from the pics on autotrader, very few 06 pop up in this area.

Yeah. He has my old '95 SHO that I used to race with (for fun). The PS pump and water pump finally failed on it, and he doesn't want to put any money into it which is understandable. It's a NY northern car and is full of the cancer, but was a fun ride anyways.

Anyways, he was looking at a 2003 BMW 525i (pre-bangle butt), a 2005 CTS, and the 2006 LS. The LS is the cheapest option so he's starting there. He figures since I have one it will be free tech support (yay). Plus he said he liked the car even if it does hug the love handles.

And he will enjoy being in a less common car that turns heads all the time.

Nice Kumba sounds like your in for some for some real fun Tech free Hotline :)

Theres the black 06 down in st pete but for 6,000 but its got a ton of miles.

This

My buddy I think has over 100k on his 05 with no real issues and it's still very clean too. I forgot his name but he's on LvC too.

For 6000 its a steal.

You can buy a new engine with 0 miles and install it for less than 4 grand which would come out to 10K which is still a good price.

Yeah, but it already sold. I told him to just look at 05+ LS' since they seem to be the most trouble free. The 04's still had a few issues after the major updates from what I have gathered here. He's currently waiting on the bank to give him his pre-approval so he can start throwing out offers to people.

Plus 05's are covered for the coils.

If he could find an 05 LSE he would have the best of both worlds.
