hey everyone,
Im a new lincoln ls owner bought from ford used section for
$5150. { 2000 v6 95k.} it now has 99k. Im 18, don't know much about cars, and just bought it in october. Im having a few new issues. On the rear drive side I'm hearing loud squeaks all the time ( little or or big bumps ) took it to a shop they said control arm and bushing and pins. 534$. then one of my friends said its probably just a bushing, not a control arm too?... i have no idea. Also i paid to get a tune up ( plugs ) and had to change a coil, ( cylinder 6 misfire ) now when my heat is on once in a while i smell like a sour gas smell i want to say.

any help would be appreciated, this is my first time on the site and i idle you guys and hope my LS runs for a long time.

From the sticky at the top of this forum:

The lincoln ls over time develops a hallow thud coming from the suspension. Most of the time it will be the sway bar bushings. In some cases it might be the axles, ball joints, control arms and others but check the bushings first as you may get other noises other then just the thud over small bumps. Inspection from a good mechanic or dealer (beware) would eventually find the culprit for the noise.

Is it a squeak(sharp metallic, high-pitched) or more of a thudding(thumpy, dull) sound?

Also I'm not really too familiar with the "sour gas smell" is there any other way you could describe it?

Welcome to the site. Congrats on the purchase (although the price seems high). I hope it's a manual transmission.

No clue on the smell.

Whenever you feel a misfire check the coil(s). Don't wait, cats in the exhaust will get damaged from prolonged misfires (expensive).

The noise coming from the rear: hunt for the noise yourself, or have a friend who knows and you trust hunt for it. If you find the noise, but can't identify the part; upload a picture of it here.

I've got a V8 so there isn't anything I know about the V6 in particular. However, the great thing about this site: someone will.

Wish I could be of more help. Good luck with the fix. Again, welcome.

nope not a manual. bought from an actual ford dealer, so of course was going to be a bit higher, it was a one owner, and in terrific condition. and for the misfire i had i fixed it the next day. and i herd the v6s coils lasted longer or something? don't know if thats true or not, but as for the sound i don't know anything about cars whatsoever. what should i take a picture off ha.

Haha, well I mean take a picture after you visually identify where the noise is coming from. You would only need the picture if you don't already know what the part is.

When I'm hunting for a suspension problem I'll have someone load/unload the suspension (or generally move stuff around, attempting to reproduce the noise) while I listen for where it comes from.

Luckily no noises from my LS so far.

It may actually just be a bushing. But you can't buy just the bushing, you have to get the entire control arm.

The lower rear control arm can be had at tascaparts.com for $216. Buy the part and find a mechanic who will install it.

Forgive me Trickett....but here comes my 2 cents on the topic of prices. :)

Prices are like opinions. We all feel like there is a better deal out there no matter what someone says they paid. Thing is, most fail to take into consideration the buyer's immediate needs or simply how bad a person wants what they want.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

But.... we do agree on one thing Trickett, I to am simply happy to see another LS owner in the family. Seems that we have alot of new members lately so that speaks well to the LS hopefully living on through enthusiasts for quite some time. :)

Bright as in output?

I have 6k low and fogs, greenish yellow hi beams, and 5k in reverse lights. Imo, the 5k is white & bright. 6k is close, just blue

Edit: i have 35w kits and dont get flashed, or the finger from oncoming cars

You bought a car with a misfire from a dealer? And is possibly has an exhaust leak? I would have made those fvckers fix that crap before I bought it.

Lol no. I got the missfire after 3k miles of having it... Still not very long. I actually got it after I had to drive threw a 1ft deep flood and the missfire came about 1hr later. And my cars exhaust is quiet as can be that's what throws me off.

These cars are lincoln luxury sedans and as such have a lot of noise suppressing features to make the cabin silent. I know know how the V6 is laid out but my V8 had an intake silencer, resonators and mufflers that effectively make it totally silent in the cabin at anything but WOT.

I know but wouldn't it be loud outside my car I mean it's quiet outside also. I don't know much but I thought you herd that kind of stuff thanks again

do you get the smell whenever the vents are "blowing"... could be you need to replace the cabin air filter... more info somewhere around here...
Coils Can be common, good rule of thumb is to replace them all when you first do it... otherwise it'll feel like your always in there...
As for the HID kit... Id imagine by now (it is 2012) that most drivers are use to the "brighter" (although not true) looking headlight... projector or not, i doubt its really a problem any more..
Tons of info on this site, Welcome. My advice is A.) dont be a d!ck B.) spent the next month reading every thread you can. C.) if your not sure, search around (w/ google) not the search link up top), then click the show more from lincolnvscadillac.com link.... This car will mostlikely (I hope not though) be expensive to upkeep if you dont learn to do as many repairs as you can... Dealers get pricey ....

Enjoy the new car...

I'd bet the squeak is a bad rear toe link.

Both of mine made horrendous noises when they failed.

They are ~80 a piece.

I agree my driver side squeaks like crazy right now

Young LS,

Also I will suggest that you take a look through the sticky at the top titled

"Please read before posting new threads"

We all know that the sites search feature is a chore to use, That sticky has tons of info in it about common questions.

We are not against new threads but that will save you tons of time and frustration, also if you have a questions its easier to just read the answer than wait for a reply.

I want to say welcome to LVC, this is one of the greatest forums on the net. Be sure to figure out who's around your area as most of us have a meet or two during the year and they are a great time.

Also be sure to check out the up coming national meet that will prove to be a great time.

Again welcome and have fun.

The control arm comes with new bushings and ball joint. I dont know what "link pins" are. Go to the website and look up rear suspension for your car. Could be rear toe links. Good Luck
