Anybody upgrade there spark plugs (e3)?

Looking to upgrade to 8 new e3 spark plugs and changing all 8 coils.. can someone explain to me the different types of spark plugs or better yet which one I need to get, I've been looking online but all that's coming up are different sizes still a virgin to the engine I dont know anything.. A little help would be nice thanks!
 
I have done a bit of reading on these and do not see feedback which truly indicates that they are truly better than the Motorcraft or NGK Iridium plugs. Personally, I use NGK and only had an issue once a coil went bad. Others use Motorcraft and are equally happy with them.
 
This was, perhaps still is, a widely discussed topic not only on this forum but many forums for different makes and models. From what I've gathered from this site, your safest most conservative route to take is to stick to oem for both the coils and plugs. This may be more costly but sometimes you know a guy.

For coils (cops) check out the Visteon Coils/Cops thread that's current discussing Visteon coils off of eBay. I think I got them quoted at around $60-$75 a piece from the dealer, with the Visteon ones off eBay you'll be saving a boat load of money for parts coming from a company that's owned by Ford.

If you do choose to get them from a dealer, give Maxx a call (first LVC sponsor on the right side of the page) I forgot the discount but he hooks it up he's "the guy" for us people who don't have a guy.
 
You will get different opinions, but the general consensus is stick with Motorcraft coils & plugs. I got mine from Max. (Tell him you are with LVC).
As mentioned above, people are trying the Visteon coils.
 
Love my Denso Iridiums #IK16. Not cheap but worth it since I believe I am getting a small mpg improvement.
 
Not exactly on topic but I put a set of E3's in my Harley at the start of last riding season and they seemed to steady out my idle a little bit. I'm sure that's just the placebo effect but what is truth is that I usually replace the stock plugs one more time during the season and didn't have to with the E3's. When I looked at them before winter storage they still looked good too. I'm going to try to keep them another season and maybe put them in the LS next.

The LS coils are really sensitive. If you put those plugs in, the coils will probably fail even quicker. You really don't have anything to gain. Either the spark gap at the end of the plug works or it doesn't. There are no magical gains to be had here.

This is absolutely true, I bought the e3's and they are junk and over priced. do not buy them...
 
spark plugs and valve stem caps are two things i don't mess around with on the LS, stick with motorcraft....
 
Rell.....I guess I live dangerously since I successfully ran NGK in my last engine and in this new one. Call me marcdanger. :)

ha, yeah I think you would be safe with any standard plug with the right heat range gap and material, they are all designed with the same OEM spec essentially

I think they may have made the spark plug to the engine not the other way around... And as far as tuning goes I doubt they tuned the engine to run that plug, you would more likely make the plug run well in the engine.

I may be wrong, but until a ford engineer walks through the proverbial log in door..

I just HATE replacing (and paying) for coils.... anything i can do to make them last longer, i will..
 
It is. Never thought about it when I said it. Lmao. But u do know I arbitrarily had an engine built? It was never because of need. My original with 207,000 worked just fine. Still have the oem starter, alternator, radiator, and fuel pumps. My new engine only has a new water pump because I bought the updated pump with metal impellars. I have had a Hell of a run with my LS and laugh when gen 2 guys kinda dismiss them as all problematic. ;).
 
LMAO... i know, just messing with you.... I didn't know you had so much original though, thats awesome.... Love my 1st gen, also very solid....
 
I hear the gen 1 concerns but I do tend to wonder how some owners, as with any car owner, treat their cars or do any preventative maintainence.
 
Funny how everyone wants to use factory only ignition parts and have no problem using suspected sub-standard suspension/cooling system/etc. parts.


Just an observation.......

or if oem is so great why do people want to redo all the radio.

or what about everyone cheaping out on wheels all the time,

the story always has another side.
