97 Mark Viii LSC vs 11 Camaro SS

Notice how close of a race it was up to 70 mph. :D And that's exactly what I mean about street racing. It's a whole different story when both cars complete 1320 ft of track. :D After the 1/8th mile, it was all over for the Camaro.

KS you just proved my point that the camaro is way faster. I can't watch the vid on my phone but Dons car has a best time of 11.66. All the OP has to do is post up a vid. It has to have a shot of the window sticker and the VIN to verify that it is an SS. Two of my friends have to be there taking notes and then I will believe him.

I'm meeting up with the Camaro owner tomorrow during the day so we can get good video. We will race multiple times so to all the guys doubting that I can't hang with this Camaro I can prove you wrong I will get video of our motors and all so u will see its a SS and not a v6 and how good of a driver do u have to be to go in a straight line?lol but you all will see a video I promise!

70mph is not even a full 1/8th mile for a stock Mark VIII. Cory's Mark VIII will probably do 75-78mph in the 1/8th and the stock LS3 Camaro will do around 85mph. People don't understand what kind of beast a Mark VIII is with 4.30 gears and bolt ons off the line.

Still have to push the gas! :shifty:

And some people are seriously dilluted about how fast their car really is. I own one with every bolt on you can get besides a SC. If your telling me that all I need to do is switch my 3.73s to 4.30s and I will be taking a 425hp car off the line and not getting run down til after 70mph, I dunno what I am waiting for. No one is gonna tell me that a gen2 with gears and a tune is gonna stand up against a car that weighs less and make over a hundred more horses to the ground than the mark makes at the crank. That is if they both get traction.

With 4.30's, drag radials and stall your car should do 5 seconds flat to 60mph easily, right around what a new Camaro does. When you factor in this is on the street and a manual transmission, what is so hard to understand?

Philly why are you thinking that the camaro is so fast it runs a 13.0 with the m6 and a good driver
That's not far off kirks 13.5 I have seen a 2010 m6 camaro run a 13.6 so if the op is going up against a m6 on the street its a very good chance he can't launch and it will be a good race 0-75.

Well well well Goodmorning LVC!!! Today is the day! Guess im gonna crawl out of bed and go get my remote start installed on my Mark and after she is done its race time!!! Hope everyone has a good day! Quit doubting a mark! You sound like mustang owners around me always making fun of mine and my buddies marks.. You will see why my 2nd gen can do it! Because she knows I believe in her fat a$$!! :) ttyl

The OP doesn't have Kirks mods. I will believe the OP when I see a vid. Its hard for me to believe that a gen2 with 4.30s and a tune can do this feat under optimium conditions. I have had a lot of folks try to tell me they beat(insert way more powerful car) or even kept up with said cars. I guess I'm just jaded. Too many peeps try to say their car is way faster than it actually is. Look at the LS guys. With a tune and CAI(which is reality is a hot air intake), they think they can take anything.

A simple case of "Driver sucks". I used to run at the 1/8th mile track weekly as it was less than 3 miles from my house back when I lived in North Carolina. Back around 2001 I had an old beater Oldsmobile Ciera station wagon with a 3.3 V6. I used to run it after test and tune for the bracket drags because it was so slow and consistent.
One night during test and tune I lined up with a guy in a new 2001 SS Camaro with a 6 speed. The guy could not drive worth sh!t and I beat him not once but twice in the 1/8th mile by around 2 seconds. I was running something around a 10.3 at around 63, he was running 12.0-12.5 1/8th mile times spinning as he went.
That guy lost to me (twice), lost to a Fiero GT, a V6 Camaro and a 4 cylinder Honda Civic.
Now did I think I could go out and beat LS1 Camaros in a 3.3 160 HP station wagon? Of course not, even though it happened that night. Same here, give both cars equal drivers and this would not even be a race, but the earlier win would still be legit.

does it really matter? ive seen a new SS run CONSISTANT low 14s at the track. that would put me right next to him the entire race.

new 5.0 ran mid 14s all 3 times. i think he left cause he was 2 seconds off what he should have been.

i destroyed a viper in my old 3000gt. i shouldnt have but i did. 3 times.

i think he can do it. "hanging with" isnt hard to do. especially to 70.

I agree Steve, thus my first post in this thread. SS driver has to suck.

Remember that night you broke the trans in the green VR4 and I had my slow ass RX7 and beat the dude with the orange 99 SS? Dude couldn't drive for chit. Made me think I was hot chit.

4:30 gears is pretty damn steep for a car with as much torque as the mark viii has, I don't know how either the mark or this phantom camaro we keep hearing about made it off the line on street tires without spinning, if it is true that the mark kept up with the camaro it's probably due to the camaro losing traction badly. Like someone else said, on the street anything can happen..

There is way too much talk about how fast mark viiis SHOULD run with certain bolt ons/gears/converters..out of all the people on this site, why hasn't someone done a run down of modifications and track times after each bolt on or change they've made to the car, so we can TRULY see what mark viiis are capable of before and after mods..and not just this he says she says bullsh*t.

And stop bringing up that its a Gen 2. The way you guys talk the Gen 1s up you would think they run 14.00s all day when in reality its only 93s and only a difference of .2 of a Sec. on average.
I ran a 14.67 in my 97 with my g-tec stock old motor and yes the g-tec agrees with the times I get at the track in our camaro and mark with new motor

I have had a gen2 and still have my 93. The 98 was pretty slow compared to my 93. Plus I have ran and rode in a gen2 with the OPs mods. If it makes y'all feel better I don't believe that a gen1 with gears and a tune could fox with a new SS. When I see a vid or run one myself this spring, I will be a believer I'm sure.

Makes me feel a little better
But I still am hoping for the mark to keep up, got to, I love marks.

Well the guy just finished my remote start not long ago. We ran out of daylight so we won't be able to get video today. So we are gonna try to set something up tomorrow. I will keep you all posted.

So how did you bypass the PATS?

Idk what PATS IS? But he told me That I needed 2 ignition keys. Everything still works fine besides my puddle lamps when I hit the unlock button on my new remote. But all in all I HAVE REMOTE START! I love it!

Good Luck Cory.

Thanks man! Glad I have some people who believe in the Marks! I mean I have no reason to lie about going against the Camaro. I feel good about it, and we did like 10 runs from zero that night and all were the same outcome. I like the highway taking off from 60 because I do pull from him there! :) but anyway were gonna try to set something up tomorrow. Later
