Hello lvc I want to drop my car soon , I want to cut a coil but just wanna know what you guys think, I don't wanna cutt my stock springs just In case of somthing keep in mind I said cutt not torch .some people say it rides the same. Also how much drop did you guys get off uncut eibachs.? Last thing is are they easy to install. ? Thanks
 
My v6 dropped about an inch up front. But the lower weight compared to the v8 caused that. The Eibachs on a v8 look nice. Easy install with the right tools and someone to help

Edit: it's easy if you know what you are doing... If not, springs under tension can kill you. I plan on cutting a coil off of the fronts on mine over the winter and will post pics.

Cause I wanna get 2inch lower can I cut coil.?
 
If I remember correctly, the original owner of the LSX cut the Eibachs. I dont remember how much he cut off or how much it dropped though.

You think the ride will be fine just by cutting one coil?
 
If you want to risk possibly your ride quality , cornering, and braking ability... then cut away. If cut too much (which could be the difference between 1/2 inch). then your stuck.... id recomend getting the eibachs, install, then see if its enough... If you really want low, find some used ones that are already broken in. Hell, im sure if you offered someone here new ones for there used, they'd jump all over it.... just by .02

So I can't just cut some new eibachs.?
 
You can cut them but you have to be careful....get someone who has cut coils before to do it.

You can DO whatever you want... there have been people in the past who have... some even claim there is no difference. My advise is to do it all a step at a time. perhaps try the eibachs first before you start cutting... keep in mind if you plan to do any wheel upgrades...
 
I spoke briefly with Eibach's R&D guys today, but had to cut the call short due to a meeting on my end.

I am waiting on a call back from them shortly regarding lopping a coil off to see how they think it will effect the progressive rate springs
 
I own the LS1 LS now....the ride isn't "great", but I have been in a lot of cars that ride worse. BIG bumps are very harsh. Just crusing around it rides great, and handles pretty decent. It feels like the suspension up front bottoms out a lot, but it's all good LOL. Tires do NOT rub....they get close, but no rub.
 
Good news. Per eibach engineers, they are linear rate and the top coil is dead. We can safely cut up to a single coil off of the fronts. I was advised not to do more than 1/2 coil on rears. Also advised to used a cutoff wheel and keep the heat generated by it to a minimum. Also, adjust bump stops accordingly.

Have you driven a stock LS to have some comparison??

I bet the ride is actually very harsh compared to what its supposed to feel like. I like to think of it as softer than as mustang but sportier and not as soft as a towncar. A mix of the two.
 
Haven't driven a stock ls in years. For a "luxury" car, it rides like :q:q:q:q LOL. For a performance car, it rides ok.

shops probably wont cut them. liability issues

at least the ones i work(ed) for won't
 
I was driving the ls today....I decided it rides like :q:q:q:q compared to my civic and Beater Mazda. It's acceptable, but by no means does it "ride good" LOL. Handles pretty decent, and doesn't feel unsafe, its just very harsh...the car also has 19's with low profile tires though too.
 
I suggest you get and install the Eibach springs. Let them settle. Then decide. I got a 1.75" drop with my Eibachs springs. With the springs and 245/35/19 tires. I can barely fit a finger bwteen the top of the tire and fender. I still get a good ride and the lower stance without giving up handling.
 
I'll take a tape measure to the top of the wheel well later today on the front and rear to give you an idea of how low the car is. Someone stock should do the same so we know how low the eibachs are with a coil cut...
 
Eibach Springs Pro-Kit drop:
Measured from ground to bottom edge of fender. 245/35/19 tires.
Driverside front = 26 1/4"
Passengerside front = 26 9/16"
Driverside rear = 26"
Passengerside rear = 26"

Installed since spring of 2005. I have about 150lbs worth stereo equipement in the trunk.
