the couple that I've put in haven't really impressed me too much. great idea and a pretty decent HU for an entry level system. the screen is its strongest feature, since its not soft like other LCD screens, it is very responsive (some of the time) not sure however if it is hard plastic or glass (feels like the latter). but i dont know if it just has too slow of a processor but a lot of the time, it can lag behind quite a bit. the funny thing is that it seems to register the action fast, but then thinks for a while before doing it. there also seems to be a good bit of system glitches over on avic411.
also a strange thing that i have noticed, i do not believe that pioneer actually makes this unit. more like they have some body else manufacture it. all of the parts it comes with do not look like anything else that comes with any other models. first off, instead of the normal small GPS antenna that has been coming with every AVIC since the N1, it come with a huge cheap antenna that looks exactly like all of the Ebay universal GPS antennas that comes from china. and instead of any of the normal wire harnesses all of the other pioneer radios use, it actually has a older VW harness on the back (you would be crazy to own a jetta want this radio) exactly like a lot of no name radios people bring me from Ebay.
the biggest draw backs are that it definitely a very limited deck, with few outputs for any major system, it not having any optical drive, it has very few apps that it is compatible with, and the biggest problem is that it locks you in to having to have an iphone even more than you all ready are (few people are as eager to replace their headunit every 18 months as soon as their contract is up like they do with phones ) without an iphone, you basically have a very expensive AM/FM radio, without a data plan, you lose all of your internet based navigation and media streaming. lets also not forget apple has been known to make major changes that can render all owned accessories to not be compatible with new models.
in the end, if you are a loyal ifan, and want a new system with out having to spend a lot of money. than this might be just right for you, there is a good chance that future updates will fix a lot of the little issues (fingers crossed) and if its popular enough, the second version should definitely be a real contender.
