Fugg....I hope it's a TPS

Guys, please help me out here. Today I was going to work, trying to pass a car, and my trans was flipping out, damn thing was redlining in second gear when I punched it and bounced off, then I let off. Well, I noticed to get out of first, I have to let go of the gas for a couple seconds, and then apply it again, with it sounding like a manual lol. Now into second and third it shifts fine and smooth, fourth idk, haven't checked and don't want to, but as long as I don't get into it, it's fine. Very touchy if I give it to much gas, it's not rough shifting or anything, so I am hoping it's a TPS, hell just installed one before I put the motor in, but I guess it was junk. Hope it's not the gears slipping, and letting off the gas, helps them catch again. :(
 
1-2 accumulator bad or spring broke? just my 2 cents.

how does it shift if you manually shift it? could be the shift solenoid is full of junk.

Well I actually did manual earlier, seemed to shift fine until I got out of second, going into third and gave it a lil gas. :shifty:
 
Alright went out, and this is what I found out. The car in first, will manually shift into second fine, when you get into second anything above 2500 rpm and it shoots up, then shifting into drive , anything above 3000 it shoots up. Now, if it's in drive when I start off in first gear, like I said I have to let off the gas or it will redline all the way up and not shift, once I left off and go into second, it's fine, but anything above 2500 or 3000 it shoots up. Get it? Lol
 
I think your trans is fubared. if you are manually in 2nd @ 45mph when you stomp it it just climbs the rpm band, and it is not pulling, it is fubared.

does it shake or "shudder" at all?

Edit: i hope i do not have to remind you to check fluid level. and while you have your dipstick out, smell it. if it smells like clutch or brakes it is fvcked

Eh, it climbs, just slow. Nope, no shake or shudder. Nope, fluid level should be excellent! I will check, just in case, and hope it doesn't smell. :( Rebuild, or buy a used one? Oh, 156,000 miles...
 
Got a Trans in the garage that came out of a 97 with 80K, just a close option that I'll let go reasonable.

I'm rockin' a $150 salvage yard trans out of a 99 Vic. It shifts hard and fast. These trans are a dime a dozen up here.
 
I don't know if anyone around here remembers Iszi... He was a user on the .org. Anyway, I put a trans in his car, but we reused the old shift solenoids. His new trans smoked just like the old one, turns out one of the solenoids, I don't remember which, was weak and was not giving the trans high enough line pressure. I guess it could have been the line pressure solenoid, but I don't remember. If you haven't smoked the trans yet, and sounds like you haven't... You may be able to still save it, sounds like it is not getting enough pressure in the clutch packs and is allowing it to slip. I would try that before you burn up the clutch packs.

I remember driving that car on my test drive, and it was doing what you said yours is doing. I was doing it as a side job on a Saturday at the ford dealer... We didn't do the repin on the new trans because I ran out of time. I told him to baby it and bring it back the next day. He calls me on the way home on his cell, I can hear the car screaming in the back ground and he tells me, "it won't shift at WOT!" I sighed and told him to bring it back tomorrow. Anyway he was too aggressive on slipping clutches and smoked it.
 
Well-folks-it-actually-went-through-all-the-gears-fine-today-went-through-first-but-had-to-keep-it-under-or-at-2500-2700.-Got-to-third-and-gave-it-gas-to-get-up-to-65-and-it-was-fine-at-3000-getting-up-there-but-couldnt-go-past-3500-trans-would-go-crazy-again-lol.If-there-is-a-shudder-it-is-slight.To-make-sure-anyone-want-to-describe-this-shudder?

Both of those... Honestly if I was in your shoes, I would be taking it to an aamco or something. May be cheaper than a trans swap.
