rims and tires

the reason for the max performance summer tires is because im only driving the car with the cobras in the warm weather, like march-august. when its cold and rainy, sept-feb, the vogues and stock 16s are going back on so the cobras dont get ruined

maybe, another member on here has the 17 cobras with the same 255 up front, 285 in back and no rubbing. would i be better off getting 275?

The dates are usually April to Late oct for when people switch over. Varies slightly on region but whatever floats your boat.

i just looked up the same brand tires but with 275/40 in the rear. they have the 255/45/17 for the front and 275/40/17 for the rear :) and these are ultra high performance all season, my dad has the same tires on his 03 benz, staggered, they're really good in wet weather, excellent in dry, like no road noise at all. these aren't cheap tires though, 686 for tires, 880 for rims w/o shipping, probably close to 1800 =/

I'm near Chicago. By mid-late April all the salt's usually washed off with mild temps, late Oct it's mild out and the likelyhood of snow is very small (minus you guys this year :) ). I usually have mine off by holloween at the latest.

haha yeah snow in october.. hopefully we don't get 4 feet like last year. when i was younger like 5 years ago i like snow, but now im 15 turning 16, the parents don't go out and shovel with us anymore, its all the kids, which i don't mind but fml 4 feet of snow, i made like 300 bucks shoveling peoples houses. shoveling snow blows but if you want to make quick money or some on the side in the winter, shovel peoples houses.

question for you, if i run the 255/45/17 up front, and 275/40/17, will the tires look beefy or low profile? i really don't want that beefy look, also don't want the tires to be too low profile lol. in between i guess but more on the LP side.

275 40s on 17x9s at stock ride height.
lowered slightly it will be fine.

you mean you actually lowered it? or the car lowers with that rim & tire combo, i talked to the guy at tire rack about the tires he said they should be fine as long as the place your getting the rims from have the right bolt pattern, offset, told him the site was made especially for mark 8s. he said that with those size rims and tires the car will lower 1'' from stock height, which i could care less, it will look better a little lowered

gotcha. i know i have a lot of questions but im only 15:) and not new to cars, but new to anything that comes to modifying a car, whether it'd be picking the right size tires and rims or performance parts, hell even exhaust lol. that's good the car will look a bit sleeker imo. thanks

x2, if your spending the 900 on rims you mine aswell go with the chrome ss's if you wanna stick with the chrome 5 spoke look... I would never spend 900 bucks to go +1 in wheel size, ever.

I wan to get the 18" saleen speedstars in chrome but its too much of a risk bending a rim over here, way too many potholes. I think 900 is a lot for only 1 inch bigger rims, I definately want the 18" ss, but :q:q:q:qty new york and all these damn potholes. can you guys recommend 17s that you would get if you were in my position

If I was in your postion I'd wait for a used set of wheels (17 or 18") to come up on cl. It would save you a grand and change and you wouldn't have to be all worried about bending a wheel as much. As long as you have a 45~ series tires you should be fine imho. 35 is where most have had bad luck. Varies but you get the hint.

rim options

If I were you I would hold off on buying rims in the 5x4.25 pattern and look into doing a hub swap to the mustang bolt pattern (5x4.5)...you will open your wheel options up to a TON of different rims..anything you can think of that would fit a mustang..I've always liked the 96 cobra rims with the black inserts..I think they would look badass on a black mark..there's a guy around my area with a black 96/97 Thunderbird that has them on and I think it looks really good..just for the hell of it I did a quick eBay search and came up with a few sets with tires for 400-500...much cheaper to buy used nice rims than pay 1300 plus for brand new rims and tires..especially since there are only a couple places that sell rims in the mark viii bolt pattern.

yeah, unfortunately I'm not allowed to get 18s, parents won't let me. the rims n tires on the car are in decent shape, the tires last 75k miles or better, so maybe ill invest in a true dual exhaust? hell of a lot cheaper and I think id be happier spending money on exhaust right now, rim can wait till atleast next year for now unless my family hits the lotto lmao

I have 275/45s on 18" x 10s out back and could have definitely went with a bigger tire

05+ saleen speedstars from american muscle...

Have no problems so far hitting new jersey potholes, plenty of meat on the rims

lmao, who else got 17 inch cobra Rs for mark viiis? I only see scp, with shipping its gonna be like a grand just for rims....
