I HIGHLY recommend this!

Revs much faster now. ;)

I'm running 24* total timing, the stock AFR tables, and disabled knock sensors. Any of ya'll mess with this stuff? If so, how much timing?
 
What are you using to tune with? More importantly, what are you using to log with?

Using quarter horse and EEC editor. SCT pro racer software is the only tuning software that will datalog a MLX0 EEC (gen 2 mark viii ECM).

My intake and maf are in the stock locations, so the transfer functions that are defined in the stock tune should be able to trim the fuel correctly without a stand alone wideband.

Turning off the knock sensors is a mistake, as is attempting to tune without a wideband and a way to accurately data log. :shifty:

That may be true during closed loop, but not during open loop.

BTW, the stock Gen 2 A/F open loop tables are excessively rich. ;)

exactly, thats why I'm not too worried about a wide band right now.

24* on 93 is standard on a 4v.

And, the fuel trims on the closed loop transfer over to the open loop by a multiplication factor.

Sarcastic? Right now I cannot datalog, and I'm making due. Those knock sensors get set off by all sorts of noises. I plan on making a set of headphones and listen for knock by ear instead. I'll slowly pull fuel while listening and checking the plugs.

I've been tuning 4.6L DOHC's for about 13 years now. When your N/A Gen 2 is quicker than mine, let me know. :cool:

What you might not know is that you can also use the knock sensors to add timing when it's safe to do so, but good luck with the headphones. :)

Well, how can I datalog with an MLX0 box? Some sorta stand alone system?

I do not want any of SCTs bull:q:q:q:q. 700$ to tune one car is a joke.

Well, you gotta pay to play. The SCT package is the best. I'll admit that the price of admission is steep, but I have three cars to tune, so it's not as bad.

To tune a car properly you need to be able to log (at a minimum) the A/F ratio, the MAF voltage, and the RPM's. Most Wideband O2 setups will do it. I use an LM-2.

I would need a stand alone box that could link to my computer to graph the data. Using quaterhorse and MLX0 box to datalog is out of the question. It will not work.

Huh?

The LM-2 WBO2 I mentioned above is stand alone, and also has an OBDII interface (however, I found the RPM's unreliable as I noted in the post that I linked).

I sometimes also use Autotap hardware/software for fuel trims and injector pulse widths, as well as any other OBDII parameters that I'm after.

Ok, I see. I didn't look. Well hopefully I'll get some 1/4 times @ FFW after I get her tuned up, and we'll compare notes ;)

Are your ets on street tires?

I'm curious, since I don't know anything about the Quarterhorse hardware/software, why won't it work? Are the proper definitions not available? From reading their web page, it seems like it should.

Some sorta problem within how the QH was designed. It will datalog basically every other EEC-IV/V.

It is really nice because if you can datalog, all you gotta do is wire it in where the EGR (voltage) position sensor is. Then you can datalog everything off the EEC.

The SuperCoupe crowd have taken a liking to the Moates software in a big way. I so wanted QH for what it could do until I found what it couldn't do. Especially EEC-IV with my particular strategy code.

You OBD2 guys - don't know how good you have it. ;)

You may be interested in looking at Zietronix for data logging and wide band monitoring.

I'll run my sketchy tune till I go to gear heads. They said for $55 bucks, they'll let me dial in my maf transfer function and then I'll play around with my nitrous tune.
