Hey guys I want to install aftermarket hid kit in my 2000 ls and was just wondering if anybody could help me out by telling me how you wire the ballast to the battery when the battery is in the trunk

I think older HID kits used a relay conected to a battery and the harness was just the switch that turned the relay on. Now most are just plud and play.

Thanks a bunch fellas. And what about the relays. Would I need relays with the kit considering the drl and the fact that my baby is very temperamental

My HIDs flicker whenever my alternator goes out (happens all the time). They are very sensitive to voltage, I dont think they would work as DRLs. I think that the output is dropped to 80% or something for DRL.

easy way to figure that out, hook them up like normal, and if they just flash and dont turn on, then add relays. get power from the fuse box under the hood instead of the battery, and use the bulb wires in the factory socket to trigger the relay coils.

if thats the case, then i doubt the HID's would even turn on, they would have to be wired to another source so that they would be on anytime the car was running. i would reccomend doing a similar thing for all 1st gen'ers so that the lows are on anytime that the brights are like all 2ng gens, so that you dont have a delay between switching the brights off and the lows warming back up. also flashing them on and off will reduce the lifespan on the bulbs.

Yeah I meant automatic lights not drls. You know when you flip the switch to the left. But that all makes sense now. Thanks for the input guys

Attached are the location I mounted my ballast with double sided tape. First one is the drivers side and the second one is the passenger side.

i mounted my ballast, on the bottom if the light housing (03) where the factory ballast mounts, slim 5K DDM kit fit perfect. i however was one of the few who needed a relay.

BTW, here is one that i have not seen asked, is anybody running aftermarket hids, and not using Bulb Out Warning Eliminators?

i got a set when i ordered my HID's but never tried it without them hooked up to see if it would trigger the message.

I don't think there is a warning for the headlights. In any case, my old '00 has aftermarket HIDs and there is no warning (it's a V6).

I never received a "bulb out" warning light with my DDM's.

since you dont have a message center, does the 00 have a warning light or something in the cluster to tell you when a bulb burns out, or is that just a V8 only thing?
