When I got my car a few months ago, it came with a Pioneer head unit. It works, and all is well, it has an iPod attachment which I use occasionally and a CD deck. The kid also gave me the stock tape deck radio, and I was told the CD changer in the trunk works, and I believe this, because he left a few of his burned CDs in the changer. Anyway, I just have something for the stock look of a vehicle, and I kinda want to put the stock radio back in.

A few questions to that though. Do these vehicles have anything like GMs TheftLock system? I've worked for 2 Chevy dealerships in the service departments, and I know for older vehicles this can sometimes be a pain in the butt to get the unlock code.

Also, do the factory CD changers play MP3 disks that we can burn from our computers? As I said, there were 4 MP3 disks in the changer when I bought the car, but that doesn't really mean anything.

No unlock code.

As for the burnt cd's..All i know is that my indash cd would play mine. I have no idea about the cd changer though.

Hmm. I may go pull it apart and see how much of a hack job they did putting in the aftermarket deck. Hopefully they used plug in harnesses, so I can just unplug and be good to go stock again, but who knows. This kid wasn't too bright....

If he did it the right way there should be little to no splicing.

Before the CD changer crapped out on both my Marks, they would play CD-R's and CD-RW's with no problems. The factory 1996 Lincoln CD head unit I installed in the '96 will play CD-R/RW discs fine too.

Good news, I pulled the aftermarket head out, and they only spliced the aftermarket harness to the radio, so I just unplugged and was all set. OEM radio, and CD changer work great. It wouldn't play one of my burned CDs, which happened to be a LightScribe disk, so maybe that's why. Other then that, it played the other few. And now there's no annoying crackle pop when I turn the radio off, and my speakers no longer sound blown.

Yea, it was weird, it was sounding like a bad amp. And the RR speaker always sounded blown. I was actually just about to get one from eBay, but now both symptoms are gone so I'm a happy camper.

Probably because the pioneer deck is stronger than the stocker, so it was pushing the stock speakers too much.

I never understood the appeal for a stock radio tho..it's like preferring an amber screen computer over a newer lap top--whatever old timer :-)

Hahaha. I know what your saying, and in some cases I agree with that, but its just I like the stock look and feel in some vehicles, its weird to try to explain.

I tried hard to keep my indash cd as I really liked the factory look. Had it been a tape deck it would've been gone the day I bought it. Eventually I Got my dd cause it grew old and I felt it was holding my system back.

I would never put a single din in a mark. I think that looks worse the the factory tape deck. 02

I'm still running a stock deck
But that's cause the cheapest one I found that looked
Good (imo) was $1300. That's not in my budget.

Yea, if it was me, I would have gone all out on a double din GPS receiver. But like I said, this deck was in it when I got it, and I too like the OEM look. The fact that its a tape deck doesn't really bother me, because I have the working changer in the trunk.

Well, Laser tossed this old thing in mine the other night, it's not TOO shabby

Looks pretty stock to me :-)

I'm running the stock deck, CD changer doesn't work, cassette does. So I picked up one of those things at walmart for 10 bux that looks like a cassette with a wire coming out of it, you stick it in and plug the wire into your iPod and listen to mp3s. :headbang:

andy you can play burnt cdr's but you cant play mp3 formatted disc's in the changer, if you make a cd you have to select audio for home or car when burning it, the changer is too old to read mp3.

Okay cool. Thanks for the heads up.
