Got a question on the interchangeability of the alternators can it be done? If not what is the easiest best one to use? Tried the search and fell asleep trying to find an answer.

I thought so just have a little birdy telling me differently as well as that the gen 2 is not rebuildable didn't make sense to me but I figured you or dlf would have the answer!

Just puts out 10-15 less amps and is not as reliable/diff manf iirc.

I have a 98 alt in my 93. The main power lug is in a tiny different spot/angle. Got 98 alt from boneyard and it was a new rebuilt unit.

gen 2 alt is easier to rebuild and is a 130 amp unit as opposed to the gen 1 120 amp unit. i've rebuilt both style alts.
cobra alts fit as well. (i think)
as stated, the 3 wire plug and main power wire are in a slightly different spot. no big deal.
also, the gen 2 alts i've seen have slotted lower bolts and are much easier to remove. my gen 1 alt didn't have the slots.

The 130 amp units started in 1996. I bought a 130 amp unit in a junkyard for my old 94 that was off of a later model Crown Vic.
