so in my mark viii, I have an aftermarket radio of the alpine variety, and yesterday i was trying to figure out why the lows in the cabin dont work, turns out that the previous owner had bypassed the factory amp and since the radio is a 4 channel and the amp is a 6 channel it doesnt exactly work, has anyone been sucessful with hooking up an aftermarket radio to the car and having the factory amp work?

uhh yeah. but don't bother. just fix what the other guy started. rewire the whole thing. much better.

no reason to rewire the entire thing unless you plan on going all out...I've been running on an alpine unit going through stock wiring and stock amps now for months and it's fine.

My installer simply plugged the radio in with the correct harness, and it goes through the stock amp this way. Sounds ok, but you have an interesting point about it being a 6 channel amp...
