Mark VIII Diesel conversion

There are better diesels out there for a swap. There were very few Mark VII diesels, so I personally would prefer they be left that way and not gutted. Aside from that, however, is the very limited aftermarket for parts and the fact that any engine that is almost 30 years old will probably need a few things. If you are wanting the diesel in your Mark VIII, you would be better off finding an engine that is much more readily available and has a much larger following.
 
Ed Hall is exactly how I would envision Frogman if he were trolling That fact has me suspicious.

You're right that there are better diesels out there for a swap but the advantage of the BMW diesel swap is ease of installation because it was used in the Mark VII.

The other diesel engine that might fit under the hood is the GM 6.2/6.5L diesel engine. They are similar in size and weight to a big block chevy gas engine. These engines get good fuel economy but they're limited on power.

how is being in a mark vii an advantage?
the 2 cars are pretty much nothing alike.

You really are a special kind of stupid. The Mark VIII and VII share exactly NOTHING! Even the Lincoln Star is different. They dont even share any bolts.
 
That motor is too much weight tho, he would want to remove the gas sucking / heavy pieces for better milage...like the crank and ... The rest of it

how why what huh im going to bash my head into the same wall that smiley bangs his head into . if you want diesel ,trade the mark off buy a f,ing diesel , if you want better gas mileage hyundai spelling? allantra is cheap jersey city has them for sale at 68 down 68 a month gets 30 to 40 to the gal.quit trying to change a prince into a frog!
 
My thing is, if he wants to waist his money and ruin a nice car...fvck it...so be it! He's got it in his head and has tunnel vision! Doesn't make one bit of difference what any of us NORMAL people think! Here is an idea Ed, why don't you just put you mark body on a f250 frame so that way you can have a diesel, 4wd and over 6000lbs of towing capacity!

what i dont get is why Ed comes on here and even asks the questions he does, no body has ever agreed that any of his ideals where good ones
 
I have not said much in the last couple of months but this one makes me want to say my two cents... We all own a lux-o boat with a great engine that moves that boat really good. I think that we should all be happy if we can average 21 mpg. These cars are at the oldest 18 yrs old! And in my book 21 mgs is damn good for an old boat!

I've always wanted to do a 2.3T in one or a crazy cummins or something else... Problem with most decent diesels is that they are WAAAAAAAY too tall but good on ya if you wanna try it!

I smell a build thread :D
 
Put a diesel in it, it would be unique.
But if you are trying to get a better fuel economy, I would spend money installing a 6-speed auto or manual box in the car. Would be a bit easier. Car would be faster and get better mileage as well.
 
that sure was an awful lot of work in that fox just to run 15's



i think i just figured it out, the next truck he is going to tow across the country is much heavier than 6000lbs so he now need to upgrade the mark so it can pull closer to 10,000lbs :rolleyes:

Luckily, we live in a free country and that's what spurs creativity. Some members on this board are modifying their engines by putting on superchargers for more power so what's wrong with putting in a diesel engine for better low rpm torque and fuel economy?

My diesel engine of choice for a Mark would be the 6.2/6.5L GM diesel. They are lightweight, relatively compact and very fuel efficient. They are also easily modifiable for more power. It doesn't take much to get 300 hp and 600 lbs torque out of this engine. The engine would be backed up with a built up 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission. A 6 speed manual would be ideal but I don't know where to find a 6 speed manual that would fit in a Mark and would also withstand the 600 lbs of torque from a diesel engine. Right now, I've got a clapped out diesel Suburban and I'm the process of putting this engine into a newer Tahoe. That combination would return 30 mpg but if it were in a Mark, I believe it would return 40 mpg with the excellent aerodynamics. For gearing, 2.73's would be ideal behind a 6.2L diesel
