when i bought my ls someone had already wired an amp in and replaced all the speakers with kenwoods, but im hearing a howling noise behind the music that goes with the amount of acceleration the car has. is this a ground issue? the power and ground wires on the amp are very tiny.

How many watts is the amp? That could be a slight problem depending on the power.

500/4 i believe. is it something that would maybe go down if i turn the gain down a bit or something?

sounds like you still have the stock head unit and the speed music feature is turned on ( idk the proper name for it) but push the power button for about 5 seconds and the display will pop up saying speed control, you can change the numbers using the select buttons and put it to zero

Would help a little I'm sure if it's cranked up. Depending on where the amp is perhaps the gauge of the wire is not good. Use this chart, it is pretty useful when trying to figure out what gauge wire you should use. Go up to the next wattage if your in between 2.

its an alpine cda 9886 its definately aftermarket. i think im gonna try a bigger ground, it seems like i had this problem once when i was younger hooking up one of my first systems.

where is the factory amp located btw?

The factory amp is in the trunk. The amp is mounted to the factory sub box mounted to the rear deck.

Sounds like you have a ground loop. This is typically the cause of alternator whine.

Do a google search on wayne harris ten commandments. He's an old school Rockford guy that wrote many tech articles back in the day about audio sh*t.

Anyways, back when I was putting systems together I would always reference his material.

Hope it helps.

b4 i go much further im gonna trace down where they attached the ground
and maybe pick a better location and use a bigger guage of wire. the ground wire i like the size of speaker or remote wire
