I'm thinking about moving from the Mark 8 to the LS due to the LS being newer, it's another Lincoln (damn that luxury :p), and others. I am looking at the car in the URL. I was wondering what you all thought about it, price, mileage, quality because I actually don't know that much about them. So any comments, good or bad, will be appreciated. Thanks.

I like the color that's for sure. There's plenty of info on the LS side of the forum for any question you may have. Props for wanting to keep it in the Lincoln family and you will still get to have a RWD V8. I think that price is reasonable for the mileage but I'd see what others say that have gen2's because I'm only really familiar with gen1.

IMO price is kinda high. If it had every option including HID it would be worth it. The 12 month powertrain warranty is probably junk.

The price isnt high....its an 06 they go for 15K book value right now.

I got mine for less with more options but i had to talk the dealer down. They are hard to find and usually they dont have all the options. The past 4 or 5 that sold in my area didnt even have any of the wood trim.

Now the mileage is a little high but thats still reasonable for a 5 year old car. I would try and talk them down to 11K.

Sweeeet!!! If I was in the market for a new car, that would be the one I would be looking at. Love the color combination.

I'd hold out for one with heated/cooled front seats, unless they just forgot to list that in the ad. I also consider AdvanceTrac to be an important option that seems to be missing.

I see the advancetrac button in the picture.

that button could just be for the standard traction control (which the advancetrac is much better and safer)

i agree that i wouldn't even consider a LS that didn't have the heated/cooled seat option, might not sound like a big deal if you have never had it, but once you have, it indispensable!

best year, best color, definitely a nice looking car!

IMHO the price is way too high. That looks like a base LS; the wood aside. No adjustable pedals, not sure about the seats, no ERPA, what looks liken the base radio AND ~84K miles? Maybe "out the door" for $11K.

I have a 2004 LSV8, same Color. I have about 117,000 miles on mine.

My experience has been less than satisfactory so let me warn you about my opinion...

At 85,000 miles the LS you are looking at is at the mileage where a lot of relatively expensive stuff "wears out" .

The LS is not a car for someone who can't afford expensive repairs or do them himself.

Common problems( I and many others have had these) with the Generation 2 LSV8 models with this many miles include...

Transmission problems, usually valve body and or solenoids. Moderately expensive, but could go as far as a minor rebuild.
Ignition Coils(COPs) usually due to leaking Valve cover gaskets. Expensive
Front wheel bearing/sealed bearing assembly. Can be expensive, if there is rust.
Dammed plastic cooling parts failing left and right, this costs plenty to repair if you don't do it yourself, and plenty even if you do. Replace them all at the same time or they will nickle and dime you and strand you every few months until all the parts are replaced.
Leaky sunroof, an easy fix.
Brakes wearing in about 30,000 miles or so.
Plastic interior trim parts breaking. The seat back is very common and costs $100+ but an easy home fix is posted.

I feel the LS parts quality is less than I would expect from a sedan with aspirations for the premium market. Most of the parts failed on my LS were plastic of very low quality/durability in my opinion. But then I have never owned a different "premium" brand, maybe they use junk too. No other car I have owned ever did this.

The good thing is that the LS price drops like a rock after new, so it is affordable in comparison to other similar cars.

I will say much to my contrary expectations, the engine has been relatively reliable once you get past the almost sure to have COPs failure.

I rented a KIA Optima(I think) a couple years back and I would say in the week I had it that it had just about all the same features as the LS and similar level of quality. The KIA is an economy brand with some attempts to move up market. I would assume other brands like Hyundai etc would be similar and have much better warranties than the LS. I bet that Genesis would be a screamer. BTW I don't like foreign brands but some of them are certainly starting to shine.

Before you buy, you might want to get a repair history on that LS. IF most of the problems I mentioned have been fixed, then you are probably good to go for another 90K miles or so. If not, then expect several thousand dollars worth of repairs to be coming due in the next couple years.

So now you have had a comment from the nay sayer side of the fence. Remember you will hear a lot more about complaints than the good on this kind of forum, so take my comments with a grain of truthful salt.

BTW, according to my manual the Advancetrac button is on the shifter console and looks like a car with squiggly lines behind it. The regular(cheaper) stability control is usually on the overhead console and looks like a tire with squiggly lines.. I DO like the way the Advancetrac works, maybe saved my butt a couple times, but it also has some gremlins that are common.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Both buttons live on the console. The regular traction control is a spinning wheel with lines behind the wheel. Those that have it know what it looks like.

I'd agree with others that the price seems a bit high for the options and mileage. If they're not willing to negotiate, I'd walk from the deal and keep looking. Just seeing you walk to the door may push them to go lower on the price.

Thing to keep in mind however is the price depends on the location.

Thats not a good deal in my area because theres always at least 10 LS's for sale. An area where theres not much to choose from, well another 06 may not pop up at all.

I looked at the add and thought wait a min I know where that is! lol looks like a decent looking car there are not many nice LS's around this area for sale at lest there wasn't a year ago when I was looking i thought i got lucky with my 04.

That price is only a few grand away from what I paid for my 06 LS a year ago and mine only had 28K-mi off-lease with factory ford bumper-bumper on it still. I would say the price is high. Go haggle.

As far as the car itself goes, I hope you aren't tall. I'm 6'3" and if I had a sunroof I would be scrubbing my head on the headliner. I dislike sunroofs anyways because they leak, make noise, get hot, etc etc. Speaking of the headliner, mine fell down partially back by the third brake-light shortly after I got it. Got it repaired under warranty, but it's a known issue that actually had a recall. So something to check before you drive it off.

Im 6'1" and have no issues with the sunroof.

Mine makes no noise and doesnt get hot either.

Every car with a sunroof I've ever owned eventually leaks, gets stuck partly open when the motor dies, radiates heat from the sun beating down on it, gets noisy when the gaskets get brittle/bend/break. Sure, you have no problems with it, yet. And the COPs all work great when new too.

Sorry, just biased. Never had good luck with sunroofs and I find their function limited. I would much rather have the headroom.

I'm 6'4 with no problem fitting in with the sunroof. I had a loaner LS once that didn't have a sunroof. I could swear that the interior height was the same as in my two LSes with sunroofs. (It was a long time ago, and I could be wrong about that.)

So far, no noise, problems or leaks with either of mine. If you go through a high pressure car wash, a few (very few) drops do make there way in, but so far no issues with rain.

Guess I just had bad luck with the sunroofs in other cars. Either way, I don't like them. About the only time they have come in handy was when I had one in my SHO. I was able to put it back and let my helmet stick up through it at the track. If I didn't have a sunroof in that car, I wouldn't have been able to get the helmet on.

Well some sunroofs dont come with tint from the factory....the LS sunroof does and its a very dark tint also.

I dont think the height of the LS with or without sunroof is any different....also its the strongest part of the car and they
always stay intact even when rolled over.

Thanks for all the replies. I am 6'3" but I have no problem with my Mark 8. I have changed the COP and spark plugs two times due to the valve cover gasket leaking. I was going to offer $10k for the car but I have yet seen the car in person. I'll probably try Thursday or Friday.

How hard is it to work on the car (engine wise)? Because the Mark 8 is a bitch to work on.
