Contiplating a color change

That chrome plating would make that car soooo hot just to the touch and the interior would scorch with all that reflective heat absorbing chrome. No freaking way would that work as an option. That by the way is not changing paint color, that is changing the metal finish.

There is so many negative people on here. Anyways that process is cool shiat.

It is what it is. I dont argue with people.

It looks like some form of electroplating, so you'd need perfect body panels with no dings because bondo wouldn't conduct. I guess if you were building a show car, maybe.

not for me, but its very interesting. opens the door to alot of possibilities.suspension etc..

I always liked chrome plated cars at shows. It's not practical for daily driving, but really shows off every detail of a car. mercedes put out an all chrome calender a few years back.....

thats been around for a few years now, first one that i think was ever done was a car in saudi arabia. its different, but i think on the street would blind the hell out of people!!

KK showed me something like this a couple years back... it was for a Saudi prince or something.

Chrome: For when having a yellow car just doesn't get you quite enough attention.

cool process and idea, they make a chrome paint as well. Its something i think works better as an accent instead of a complete though. Doing the whole car makes it look like it should be in a hot wheels package. The black chrome i would love to see.

Were you being sarcastic? Because "reflective heat absorbing" is an oxymoron.

What about Black Chrome or some shading?

That might look pretty awesome. I kinda like chrome cars such as the ones posted in this thread, but haven't seen anything like that yet.

What I was trying to type was chrome=reflective, and the metal will hold the heat from the sun and be so hot to the touch and increase the temp in the interior. Almost does sound like a oxymoron, but I think you get my point :D

If there were ever a car that could be called the "Silver Bullet" it would be a Mark VIII.

That's what it would look like.sitting still and driving down the road.

I was thinking the same.Wouldn't reflect the light nearly as bad.No more then a regular nice paint job.

Anybody know how durable this is ?? I like the idea of adding some translucent color over it. Would this work on aluminum ??

Here are my thoughts on the subject. Chrome is reflective, yes. This type of coating is adding an incredibly thin layer to the surface of the material that is already there, and making it more reflective. It would reflect the infrared and would keep the substrate cooler than other colored coatings would.

The reason that, say, a chrome bumper on an older car feels hotter to the touch than the painted hood is because the metal is very conductive and transfers heat to your skin faster than other materials, not that it actually gets hotter. The hood, on the other hand, has insulating paint over the metal, which slows down the heat transfer. In this case, the chrome coating doesn't have enough thermal mass to hold in much heat at all.

I am not proficient with photo chopping but this may help with the thought on shading
