So its finally happened...after 6 months im finally having some issues with my beloved ls.

So far ive thrown a new battery at it and the issue persists it so thats $125 ive already spent.

Issue is no start. Will constantly crank and i can hear the pump working but it will start sometimes others it wont.

Theres also a bit of a rough idle sometimes as well. I noticed when cranking but not starting the pats light flashes continuously but when it does start it just stays on.

I been doing some searching and ive come to the conclusion that i need coils, fuel filter and possibly fuel pump. any other suggestions?

And i dont have warranty but i have a good mechanic who charges a small fee for labor not by the hour.

Hopefully its not the pcm.

If thats all it is i would be so relieved.

I bought a spare key and key fob a couple months ago but my lazy ass never got up off my ass to go and get it programmed. The car also only came with one key and fob.

Ive got no cel on the dash and no codes with the engine running and off from my scanner.

Well get off your butt and help yourself.:) Program the new key and try that one. I have heard of chipped keys whacking out. At least you can program yourself Gen1 have to go to dealer.

You have to have two keys that are already programmed to be able to program a gen 2 key. Otherwise it's off to the stealership.

Yeah thats what i thought.

Also the key isnt cut its brand new. So i need to go to the dealer.

So a bad key will still crank the car and engage the starter??

So how does one go about getting a second key for a gen1 if you only have one key to begin with? Can I just get a blank key from ebay or something and just go to a Ford/Lincoln dealership and have them cut/program it? How much is it gonna run me? I would really like to have a spare just in case :(.

hey guys after searching everything is pointing me to a bad key.

when i come back after this weekend ill call the ford dealer and let them know im on my way with a pats key issue.

the car will stay on once i get it started so ill just drive it up there straight to the service dept.

What might be a decent price for a PATS key from say Ford? At Max's dealership, the 'walk up" price was $65 (Max was not there, so I did not ask about the LVC discount). This was for a FORD branded key and not LINCOLN branded (they work either way). eBay keys are like maybe $30 each?

Thankfully I have 2 keys with my GEN2 LS. I thought I lost one a month ago, but found it on the street near my house at 1 AM in the morning. A close call. I need to get another key or 2.

Good locksmiths can do these keys on site these days. Black, in DFW look up "Christian locksmith" on the web. They came and made keys for my Mustang GT when I had NO keys. See what they can do for you.

They saved me a tow to the dealership and made the keys for way less. and gave me a blank to manually unlock the door with just in case.

I had 2 keys when I bought my ls. After finding out I would need 2 keys to program another one, I went and had the dealer cut 2 more keys at $20 each and programmer them myself. Those 2 keys sit in a box on my dresser, so I always have 2 to program more if I lose a set.

My LS only came with 1 key and no fob. I bought 2 blank keys($24) and a fob($17) off ebay. I think the name was "keygirl" the ad stated the LS key blanks where same as some year Ford focus. I think the thing that needed Ford to program was the remote (beside only having one key) I was like WTF my 1993 Mk8 I could program the remote myself by dropping glove box and jumper wire. I called around and got price from Ford to program 2 keys and fob for 40 dollars. Cost 9 dollars at locksmith to cut both keys. None of the locksmiths I called could program PATS keys.

Yep, it was $75 for the dealer to program a new key for my car when I bought key #2.

Yep. Try this, insert key and turn to ACC position. Wait 30 seconds and start. I was having similar issues after replacing a battery, and the PATS needed to "relearn" the key. No issues since.

IIRC my 2nd key & fob was around $125, including $75 to program.

It's not the key or the front end of the PATS if the starter runs. What you have is a communications problem between the PATS (cluster) and the PCM. Often times this is because of a faulty PCM relay, and I would start there.

When the PATS light flashes rapidly, Just wait with the key on. After a bit, it will stop the rapid flash and go to flashing out a two digit code. Count the flashes and post the two digit code that you get here.

Almost any locksmith or hardware store can cut your blank key. Since you only have one, you will need either (1) a dealer, or (2) a locksmith with the right scan tool, or (3) a good scan tool such as AutoEnginuity to program the new key. An advantage of doing this is that it will deactivate the two+ keys (gen II came from the factory with three keys) that you don't have but someone else might.

You can program the fobs by yourself. I have done this a few times. You must do both of them at the same time or one of them will not work.

Remotes, yes.

Keys, yes if you have two working keys. BlackLS06 only has one working key.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Does anybody have the part number for the relay??

Remember that for Gen 1, only the dealer can program remotes. Key programming is same for Gen 1 and Gen 2.
