It is original for the most part. I wonder about the taillights though. I wish he would have told me what he would have like to do with it. Resto-mod or factory. The flathead in it has a cracked block.

40 ford

If the coupe used to look like that then that is what it should look like again. It will always be worth more stock than any restomod can ever be.It would be a good way to remember your granddaddy as well especially when you have children of your own if you dont already.

The value don't mean sheit to me. I will never sell it. My GPA refused all kinds of redonkulous offers on the car as it sits. I just wish I knew what his plans were, being that the block is cracked. The pic of the 40 at the car show is what it looked like when my GPA rocked it back in the day. It is not the actual car though. The vette is highly modded, so I think stock is not what he would do.

I found out some more info on these.

The five passenger Deluxe Convertible Coupe returned as a Ford Model in 1940. A total of 23,704 convertibles were built with a sticker price of $850.00. Wing vent windows in the doors were a new feature as was a column mounted shift. The deluxe models came with sealed beam headlights surrounded by chrome trim rings, Ford Deluxe hub caps with trim rings and a Maroon and Tan painted dash. They were equipped with a 221 ci 85 hp v line eight cylinder engine and a 3 speed column mounted shifter.

WOW, im not a huge fan of early fords. but that one looks nice! i would restore it to factory. and dont sell it! lol, what are you going to do with the vette? i wish i had a vette like that! Good luck. Keep us updated!

The vette is what my grandpa bought to replace is L88 427 69 vette that was totalled. He put the motor and tranny from the L88 in it. It hasn't run in 12 years. The 40 has not run in so long, he couldn't remember the last time it was on the road. I thought about selling my rental property to restore the 40, but I dunno. Real Estate is hard to come by.

No, but I do know that the motor in it is worth more than your LS

Geez man lighten up... Your Vette that you inherited is worth more than the LS that I bought as my first car 4 years ago. Do you want a cookie for that or a big gold star? For the record the LS is not my only car but then again I know members here who have cars worth more than my house.

I was just kidding with you. But seriously the car it self isn't worth much but the motor came out a 69 vette that IIRC 116 were made.

Lol ok, just checking. Some people take things way too seriously around here lately. Those 427s were beastly and if it is indeed out of a 1969 there were only 116 so you would be correct.

Yep it was hunter green with tan interior. When he bought it his buddies gave him chit because of what he payed. In 94 an old lady in a brand new roadmaster totalled it. He bought the 76 with no drivetrain and swapped it over and drove it like twice and parked it. It will take a lot to bring it back. It would be cool if I could find a 69 to drop the motor in.

first things first you need to get it out from underneath there and then take apart the block you can probably get it machined.

Well the 40's block is cracked and the L88 is fine. I should be able to fire it up once I drop the gas tank and fix a few small things. He took care of it, just never drove it. The last time he started it was in 04 when it was rebuilt. The rest of the car hasn't been touched or on the road since 2000.
