Sincethe 4.10's I'm thinkin' about with the 235/ 60's on the car now would tach over 3K at 70 mph, I'm wondering if anybody thought about 5 or 6 speed autos from other brands and how to make this work with adapter plate and ECU mods. Paddle shifters anyone?

if the new 5.0 mustang and the 4.6 have the same bellhousing pattern than the 6a from the 2011 mustang should bolt up. however i have no idea about a flex plate or a probably necessary stand alone tranny controller. i would just swap in a five or six speed manual if it was my car. just my $.02

My Mark VIII with 4.10 gears and sticky mickeys tachs out at about 2600 rpm. That's interesting to say the least. As far as the transmission, I considered a manual swap for a brief second until I realized the hassle of putting one in. My 4R70W with the JMOD and 3800 stall shifts as fast as lightning and I'm fine with it how it is. I suppose though, if you want less drivetrain loss, a manual conversion is the way to go. As far as the paddle shifters? Please don't. Let's not turn these beloved cars into an MKS. :D

245/50/16 with 4.10's 2600-2700 at 70 MPH... with all these rolling hills around here I get about 21-22 MPG on the highway doing 75 MPH.

how about something cheaper, like different tire size, or take the gears out. if reving up so high has you worried why on gods earth spend the kind of money it would take to get a newer 5 or 6 speed auto to work, when you can basically spend change in the couch and go with diff tires or less of a gear, or why do gears at all, its like saying i want a blower on my car but i dont want it to make any boost at all ever. dont do gears if you dont want higher rpm's
