Hey everybody, well yesterday my tachometer stopped working and I have no clue what to do? It was working fine, then it just started bouncing up and down outta no where, and finally went out completely, all within a few minutes! I have checked all the fuses, which happened to be good, and I am kinda stumped on what really happened and how to fix it or go about it. I have searched thru the threads and can't find anything that really relates to my problem, so I was hoping that maybe someone has ran into this problem before, or helped someone that has, and can possibly point me in the right direction to fix it?!?... Well any input would be much appreciated and I thank-you guys for your time!
 
Try whacking the cluster or dash real hard, you'll probably get a couple more weeks out of it.

:lol:That's kinda funny. My mom's 2000 Mountaineer did the same thing. The tach needle just dropped to zero one day and she called me to see what to do about it. I told her to whack the cluster like she was knocking on a door. It did the trick and the tach is still working today. Maybe it'll work for you, maybe not. But it's worth a try.:)
 
how can u figure out the mileage on ur car after u switch out the cluster?
 
I forgot my 98 did that when I first got it on cold days. Had to smack the dash a few times to get the tach to work. Wonder if it will do it this year too?
 
Thanks alot everyone for your info. and help! Oh and I haved tried smacking it just to see if I could get it to bounce once more, but my speedometer was jumping around when I did, and I didn't want to possibly lose that function as well.... So I suppose I gotta get a new cluster, well, when I get the extra cash that is I'll be asking around for 1. Well thanks again everyone for you input and help, I appreciate it very much!
 
I have a working tach that can easily be swapped out of your existing cluster. I did it on my '94. Give me $15 plus shipping if interested. No worries about mileage!

if its in a gen 2 the mileage is stored in the pcm, not the cluster, so if you were to put a new cluster in, it would read YOUR correct mileage.

If its in a gen 1 you need to document the mileage on both clusters when you swap the new one in.
