my car has been overheating recently, and i have noticed my fan seems to be running very loudly at these times or when it seems to be rising in temp. Noticed coolent on the ground yesterday and couldnt even drive one mile before it overheated. . topped off the collent to search for leaks. no luck. last night when the coolent went every where it seemed to be leaking onto the dccv , or the dccv was leaking. visual inspection of rubber parts to dccv turned up nothing. top left side piping is HOT, piping at top middle is warm at best, bottom right piping is cold. Upon shutting off vehicle i hear what seems to be a pumping noise on pass side of motor in the front of vehicle . this sound is affected when i squeeze the piping. im assuming i have air in the system but not finding the leak is weird. Heat is non existant or takes very long to come on even when hot. i have searched so dont be arse holes . not losing coolent from overflow tank. Like i said i do see alot of coolant on the dccv. but no cracked plastic or rubber that i can see

thoughts???

What year is your LS?
V8 or V6?

Your coolant is leaking. The only pressure relief that could allow coolant out is the cap on the degas tank. If it isn't coming from there, then it is a leak.

The V8 has an aux coolant pump under the DCCV. It will keep running after you turn the engine off, if the engine is over temperature.

Whatever leak you have is letting air into the system and is preventing the system from pressurizing. Either or both of these conditions will cause overheating. Keep going long enough and you may warp a head.

good info thanks, is it possible that it is the plastic cracked above the dccv ? and it only leaks sometimes ? im bout to pull it off can i see a crack or should i just leave it together and pressure test it

I didn't even know you still had your LS. Thought you sold it. Anyways have you tried to run it in park and just see if you can see the culprit? And I know you said it isn't the bottle, but when was the last time it was changed out?

Also any word on the package?

ya topped off the coolent and ran it until it went into fail safe . no leaks but the dccv was literally smoking

I'd say that you're pretty much due to need to replace the coolant outlet pipe, thermostat housing, (might as well replace the thermostat too), the upper radiator hose, the degas tank, and the DCCV at a minimum. If those parts aren't all cracked now, they will be in a month or two, especially since they have now been subjected to excess temperatures. Personally, I'd change the lower radiator hose too. (It's not the hoses that fail, it's the plastic pieces in the middle of them.)
Also, the plastic side tank of the radiator may be cracked.

All of those parts (except for the radiator) cracked at about the same time on by 04, and it never overheated.

cant get it to leak again. seems very hot but says normal temp. has a knocking noise on shut off that is coming from the cooling system , not a gurgle but like a low knock like a heartbeat . i opened the fill tank while hot, did release some pressure, also noticed that the driver side heat does not work but pass side does, dccv, alothough it did start to work after some time aprox 10 min. :q:q:q:q :q:q:q:qs what to do
