I just picked up a LS for by DD. It's a 05 V8 with 56k on the clock.

Anyway onto my point, what does everyone do in the snow? Is it just enough to have good tires on them? Or do I need to get a extra set of wheels and put some snow tires on them?

I ask this because I drive 45 miles each way to work and in the mornings I will prolly be out before the plows so I'm really curious as to how these things do in the snow.

It's rwd, heavy, v8

I say get some heavy steel rims and blizzak tires. Try it out if it doesn't work put sand bags in the
Trunk. Oh and get rid of that lead foot!

You will be fine with just some good snow tires. I'm running Pilot PA3s on mine.

Forget finding steel wheels for this car.

For you in Illinois, good snow tires, and maybe some weight in the back like dry sand. You don't want just any sand that can freeze and be a projectile in an accident, couple 25/50 lbs bags of cat litter or play box silica sand, you can also use for the cat next spring or under the tire on ice.

Move to Florida. LOL. No snow here, but when I lived in Carolina I had an extra set of rims and tires so the salt wouldn't muck up the good rims

Park it.:D The LS will not see the pavement once the first snow flake hits the ground. During the winter, wife drives a '07 MKZ and I drive a '03 Durango.

I already have one lincoln that I park in the winter....I bought the LS to be my DD so that means it gets to see some snow :(

i'm getting ready to buy a truck here within a week or so, so i'm going to be parking it but my first year i had it i just used the tires that were on the car and it was pretty bad, but last year i picked up a set of wheels and tires for $500 and they were pirelli snow tires and it was definately an improvement, so put snow tires on your stock wheels and buy some different wheels for the summer

I just priced Blizzaks at Discount Tire and found that it's almost $50 per tire less costly to go back to the factory rims--17"-- than to swap tires on my present 18" Verde Kaos wheels.

You will be ok with good snow tires, I just moved from Colorado, before that I was in DC. I know snow! I made a 8 hour trip in a blizzard from DC to Detroit with no problem.

Mine just has traction control I always switch it off in the snow so I can spin the tires a little to get the car going if I need to. I think you have the stability control I'm not sure if you want to shut that off or not.

I always put weight in the trunk but it still sucked in the snow. I replaced the Chinese crap tires with Eagle GT all-seasons this summer so hopefully this winter will be better.

With those wheels being so expensive to replace ($901 each from port clinton ford) and the most definite chance of chrome peeling because of the winter, i would find a good set of used oem wheels and buy snow tires. I have the exact same wheels and i am afraid of the chrome peeling after the winter to these wheels. the peeling starts on the back of the rim and then makes its way up to the front of the wheel. the first part of the front of the wheel usually is near the valve stem. I already have the peeling on the back of my wheels and have found that rechroming would cost about $300 a wheel. I hope this helps in making a decision for this winter.

Anyone run the snow tires year round? I know there really soft and would wear fast just didnt know how fast. Might just try to get by this winter on the wheels I have now and see how it is.

Take my rims off put them in my room and take good care of them, drive the LS rarely, drive the iforce Tundra ALOT =D!

The LS is a pretty crappy snow car, but with traction control and a decent set of snow or all season tires, it's bearable. Our '03 LS has the same wheels, and the chrome on the rear is peeling like crazy, we have had several issues with bead leaks, but the chrome fronts still look nice. My opinion is to get some snow tires and drive it! They are nice cars but aren't worth crap as far as resale goes. Might as well use it up.

Congrats on your new ride.

The car handles very well in the snow and is predictable. It really comes down to knowing your vehicle.

Just put on a set of good all season tires and you will be fine.

will 15" taurus steel wheels clear the brakes? that may be another option for you Derek.

Ive lived din the north before and all ive ever done is try to drive as careful as possible.
