Fog lights not working

For a while they would randomly work when I flipped the switch, but not anymore. I checked the relay in the fuse box, tested the switch, and replaced the FEM with a used one with no luck. However, if I take out the relay in the fuse box and provide power with digital meter they work. The only thing I could try a is a used headlight switch (incase by some wild fluke it is bad but showing a reading on my digital meter). Any suggestions, besides hard wiring them to the other lights?

PS If anone has a headlight switch laying around, and can give me a reasonable price I might take it.

i have/had the same problem until i hit a racoon, didn't replace the FEM though but i did replace the headlight switch and it didn't work

Assuming that you have correctly tested all of the wiring and the switch, then the cluster is about all that is left. The cluster reads the fog light switch and tells the FEM to turn the fog lights on or off.

Been dealing with this problem for a couple of years. The cheapest fix was to add a switch that triggered the relay and they work. If you find the problem, please post the solution, I'd much rather have them turn on from the switch.

A side question: Would a faulty FEM or cluster also cause the Advancetrack light to remain on and the "Check Advancetrack Message" to be displayed every time the car is stared?

AFAIK, no.
I assume that you aren't getting an ABS warning. An Advance Trac warning without ABS warning should narrow down to three possible issues.
1. The yaw rate sensor, or the wiring to it.
2. The steering wheel rotation sensor, or the wiring to it.
3. The ABS module needs to be calibrated. (This should only happen if the ABS module or the Yaw module or the steering sensor has been replaced, or if someone started the calibrate procedure and didn't finish it.)

A Ford specific code scanner can pick up the codes that will narrow it down to one of the three above.

Thanks Joe!

Correct no ABS warning, thanks for narrowing it down.

Is there a way I can test that, or a dealer only thing?

I was hoping you replied to this thread with some magic fix. I knew you've been dealing with the same issue for awhile. I'll keep the switch idea in mind.

Have you tried swapping out the relay? You bypassed it, but I don't see where you tried replacing it...

Yes I swapped it with another working relay that was beside it, with no success. Forgot to mention that part.

It's not a dealer only thing, but it is easier to do if you have a Ford specific scan tool and the wiring diagrams for the car.
I'd certainly do all the testing or pay the diagnostic fee to a dealer before thinking about changing the cluster. You'd need a dealer to marry the replacement cluster to the PCM anyway.
