This morning I drove my wife to the doctor for her kidney stone check. As I'm driving i see a stoplight about a mile ahead had turned red, so i let off the gas and coast towards it , it's starts downshifting normal and car was running great, at around 30MPH and as the light turns green I give it some gas and it starts to sputter as if it were confused as to what gear to go into, ever since that point it now has a miss in it, while at idle, as i take off from a dead stop, it feels like water in the gas or lost a cylinder. The smell in the vapors is hard to explain, but you can definitely tell it's a bad mix ratio, not a sour smell just a clean but off a bit vapor. At the rear exhaust on both sides you hear the miss, like a dog panting for air. As i drove back home at 65 it was running fine, very little miss, only at lower speed can you really feel it. And that is today's "WTF now" moment.

I have been having problems similiar as if the car is running on 4 cylinders...try disconnecting the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I did and it has worked so far.

Pull your driver bank spark plugs, check 7+8 especially, take a flash light and look down in the cylinder... (7+8 are the ones closest to the firewall)

Take some pics and post em!

Seriously? Disconnect the MAF? I hope you reconnected it...

yep disconnected and now the car runs great...no idle issues....no power loss....tires break loose from 1st to second... I will get around to replacing before my next smog test.

.....-shakes head- another mistreated Mark...why doesn't that surprise me any

All sensors should throw a code when bad... Generally if it's a MAF code you can get a can of MAF cleaner and clean it

ummm yeah all you did was put into a "fail safe" and that isnt good cuz now the car has no idea how much air is entering, it could feel stronger cuz its lean as hell

until I get a chance to fix it is better than how it has been running. if anyone has a recommendation on where to get a new mafs let me know.

I spent all morning checking it out, vac. lines, took plugs out and checked they're nice and clean ( only 2 months since replacing) so I gave up and took it to my mechanic, I should've checked on here first but thanks anyway Sapperfire. I think i got to thinking too much about how many sensors it could be and said ummmm better a mechanic check. Will post what he finds.

I had the same thing happen on my 93 it was the MAF all I did was take it apart and went out and got some MAF cleaner and sprayed the crap out of it and all is well now. You might want to try that before going out and getting a new one.

Well, mechanic called, seems i had spark plug wires bad, ordered new set. So simple just so weird they went bad in the middle of driving.

I did do that already. Do I need to buy the whole unit or can I buy the black sensor that the wire plugs into?

Advanced auto didn't give me an option, they said the wire set was either $89.00 or $92.00 for premium. For $3 difference, what the hell.

yep, the wires were the problem, car is running great till the next WTF moment. next step is figuring out why the passenger rear bounces up and down while it's driving, all other tires run smooth, only pass. rear, rim isn't warped, tire good, it's a dunno wtf.

You can get 10.2mm wires from CL for about $80 and your rear jumping around sounds like bad shocks/mounts
