front hub/spindle question.

hey i have never screwed around with a front hub so i am unsure. if i remove the dust cover and pull off the hub nut, will the hub and abs ring slide off the spindle? i have a set of spindles i just took off the 97 that was in my shop and i was gonna blast them in the cabinet at my shop and powdercoat them and put them on my 97. it looks like all i have to do is take the nut off and the hub should slide right off right? thanks for any help on this.
 
one big nut, it is on big piece, may take some persuasion. I'm not sure if I would blast those if I were you, don't want to get any media in the bearing
 
36mm socket, and the hub/bearing combo slides off.

I had mine powdercoated.

yes sir thanks doug thats what i was after thats exactly what i am going to do. is that gloss black thats what it looks like i was thinking doing these mini textured satin black. i also need both front backing plates if anyone has them. they are riveted from the factory the rivets need to be drilled out to remove them, mine are on the car but someone hacked part of them off.

Mine are satin black. I didn't bother replacing the splash shields on any of my cars. Probably wouldn't fit with the Brembo calipers, but I didn't even bother to check, just chucked them in the trash.

I did, however, use stainless steel washers under all of the nuts and bolts to protect the powdercoat.

the backing plate is there to try and keep the rotor from getting wet... wet brakes rust faster, dont stop well, and warp when hot... engineered for a reason ! they also help contain brake dust from getting all over everything else, the rear ones will also help protect the caliper/pads/rotor from grease should you ever tear the axle boot

Really?

You think a flat sheet of rusty metal does all that... :rolleyes:
 
use a smooth finish,not mini tex the texture holds dirt and is harder to keep clean. i know from experiance, a good friend owns a powder coating shop and ive helped him out over the years . texture is great in a cleaner area or where you have a badly pitted piece
 
my pads dont make dust anyway they are the best brakes i have had on a car ever my wheels stay really clean for a long time i love my brakes. i'm gonna remove the front, i'll leave the back ones on until someday when i revamp an entire IRS like i have planned.
 
mine are black as well, just use fiberglass tape when you blast them, don't really want to mess around getting the spindle all fed up
