ok so im in the market for a sub box im going to purchase 2 12" alpine type r's. i was thinking about getting the custum sub box for our cars off ebay but its gonna be a 170 and im not sure if my subs will sounds as good in them my other option was that i was gonna order a ported vented sub box from sonic electronix anybody ever order one off of there ? also any other good sites i can order car audio stuff from for good prices like sub boxes head units etc... ?

It depends on how much trunk space you want.

The guy offers the box in either single or dual subs, 10" or 12". He can also make the boxes sealed or ported, but for ported it can only be one sub apparently. Keepn in mind that all subs sounded different when ported or sealed.

Sealed will give you less bump, but a tighter sounding bass. Ported gives you more bump, at the loss of some sound quality. I tried to pull the setup from my old suv into my ls but it just didnt fit right.

Even with a single 10" sub, my box was way too big for the trunk and wont slide under so i ordered the custom box.

As for the headunit, this is just as good and cheaper:

I was thinking of getting the that ebay custom box too since I need my trunk, but I also here and there need to fold down myy seat to put big stuff in the trunk and with the subs in there I wont be able to. I might just pull the trigger though. Those headunits look good. I dont really like the ones with the big crome nob sticking out and these dont have that. I really liked leasr77's new headunit, it fits really well and no big nob.

I have ordered stuff from sonixelectronic before but not a sub box. They are pretty fast on shipping and they have pretty cheap prices and usually have the cheapest.I also save on shipping with them since they're oretty close to me. I did drive out once a little bit ago to buy my kinetic battery from them, saved on shipping.

What you want is 4v outputs.

4v's are nicer and will give you less noise, but unless your running real nice amps and speakers to be able to take advantage of the SQ, then you would have no problem compensating any 2v outputs with the gain knob (yes that is actually what the gain knob is made for) and still getting killer sound out of it.

id be running the stock speakers and i have no idea what amp to get yet

i really like that i might have to read up on that one a little more. im trying to stick with the alpine headunit since i got the alpine stock headunit. my friend had gotten a pioneer head unit a few months back and he said his stock seemed louder but idk

i know my AVIC has much more power than the factory system (only the fully amped systems should have more power than the aftermarket radios) an is much louder than the factory alpine was.

whats a good amp to buy ?

I had all supplies here already. I used to be deep into the car audio gane and have alot of stuff around. But yea Alax i cut the wood and stuff. The carpet is bad carpet. But I figured it was better than bare wood.

I got to build the box to fit maximum airspace in there while keeping trunk room. I coulda made it a false wall and flush. But who really cares when its nt a showcar lol.

I can still lift the floor to access underneath too. And its only held by being wedged in there and an L bracket. So it is easily completely removable.

There's really no number or amount of power a box can handle, however many pre fabbed boxes are poorly made and with half inch MDF. So if youre running big boy subs in there, you will have problems.

if its 3/4 mdf you should be fine unless your running major power to your subs in wich case you'd need braceing.

I bought a box that fits further back than most with 12's in there, I just wanted a more flush look instead of just having a box in there, like the ebay sub box. In your picture, I can't see the amp or the nav dvd drive, did you remove those? Did you take out your stock subs too since you blew them out?

I designed the box to slant with the rear of the trunk and to accomodate the stock amp and nav unit. So the top of the box is agaonst the bottom of those things. Also yea i removed both stoxk subs, one of them was blown and its pointless to have them when you have a real sub. And the way they sit is perfect to let the pressure push into the cabin. I also deadened the trunk lid.

My amp is mounted in the spare well.

Never use gain to compensate for voltage.

That will make the audio clip, which equals distortion. And distortion is how subs are blown it overheats the voice coils.
