everytime i start my mark i have a knocking/tapping for about 3-4 seconds. yes i have the anti drain back oil filter. Is there a fix for this??? thanks

Yeah. My '96 has been doing this for years. It's the timing chains rattling until the oil pressure pumps up the tensioners. It sounds horrible. But I don't think it will hurt anything.

I have heard that lucas helps, search for the thread. But some people don't like their oil the consistency of honey

my 98 just started doing that after 170,000 miles.

I am hoping that when I crank this one finally that it will not do it. Almost every other one I have had did it! Have to let yall know next weekend!

My wife's '97 LSC has 178K on it and (knock on wood) it hasn't started it yet. Hopefully it won't. I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway.

And Lucas makes no difference at all. No additive that I now of will make any difference. The only way to fix it is to repair the problelm. Which, I'm told, is very expensive.

Try changing to 0W-20 oil, if you are coming from 10W-30 or 10W-40 it might make a difference.

The only additive that I've seen actually do anything for engine noise without clogging oil passages is polydyn tx7. I sell it at work at have noticed a difference in my own personal cars, with Lucas I actually heard increased chain clatter. But at the end of the day I'm still a big critic of snake oils and additives. I prefer the proper fixes, new tensioners and guides and good quality synthetics.

Anyone ever try Marvels Mystery oil for tapping? I've heard people trying it, but I've never done it personally
