i asked about second gen pieces fitting into a first gen, a guy posted his that he painted, so today i bought all the supplies and did it, the only problem i had was the temp control button i couldn't figure out how to get them off so i tape them all which was a pia and that piece wasn't the great but it look really nice and you can only see the imperfections up close

each piece has a before, during and after pic let me know what you think

this one is a pic off a broken radio i had that i tested on the left side of the radio is primed, painted, clear coat (which is what i did), the bottom part is just painted it, and the right side is sanded, primed, painted, clear coat i did not do this since the scratches from the sanding were too noticable to me

this is everything i used, silver metallic duplicolor paint, duplicolor adhesion promoter, and duplicolor clear coat

damn thats a lot of pics lol hope you enjoy

Looks nice.. I see that you went with the adhesion promoter. Since that's clear, it darkened the color up a bit. Probably the better choice since your touching it all the time.. I post pics of how mine turns out..

yea i figured since it was interior and exterior then what the hell why not, it adds that nice touch that i think i was missing inside, good look covering all the buttons lol it took like an hour to try and do it the best way possible

Yikes! Some of it turned out ok, but some of it looks like it was put on too thick. I bet you could get it looking stock with a round of wet sanding!

Maybe thickness was not the issue, though. It could have been prep, primer, humidity, etc. They do not look bad; however I do think they look painted. With a little extra effort I think it would look stock!

well those first 2 pics you showed may look like it too think but its an aftermarket piece and wasn't sanded down so it had a different texture, the temp control panel was pretty had to do and again that isn't the greates one but you can only see whats wrong up close

Like the finished product. Looks great. I'm on a BB so pic quality isn't too great, but what's under the radio. Is it jus that empty space or is something there?

yea its just an empty space, i used it for cd's but they always flew out so now its just there

Turned out pretty good. Now if I could only get the time to strip mine down and repaint it.
